Walaikum Salam,

All the success of UF is nothing more than a test, another trial in this life. I try to make du'ah to Allah (swt) to bring me towards companions and projects that will bring me closer to Him and take me away from companions & projects that will take me away from Him. Only He knows what is best for me.

Shaitan uses many things to try to pull you away from our Deen, and one of those things is success. This is why I also try to make du'ah to Allah (swt) to take any arrogance out of my heart since the quick success of UF and the amount of international attention that I getting is yet another trial for me.

My hope is that Allah (swt) accepts our actions and the actions of all those who have helped with every aspect of this project and that He makes us of those who will be successful on the Day of Judgment InshAllah. Otherwise, we will have wasted our time and efforts with this project.

your brother in Islam,

Ali

As salaamu `alaikum Fatima,

Thanks for the kind words. Insha Allah, we hope that success does not divert us from our sincere intentions and purpose of doing videos, movies, etc., for Ummah Films.

Insha Allah, our videos will benefit those who are watching it. Success and GUIDANCE comes from only ALLAH, all we do is put forth the effort.

Assalamo aleikum, I´m writing this here, hope it´s ok inshaAllah. It´s about the Iman studios intro for season 2. And I just wanna say that you shouldn´t even have option 1 as an option AT ALL. Brother Ali you are doing some good stuff and may Allah reward you for your intention but it is kinda sad that you start that good with haram music, so pleeease change it! By the way I liked option 3 a lot.

wa-salam

As salaamu alaikum,

The issue of music is debated in Islam. As Muslims we need to inform people if they are doing wrong, but if we are not scholars and we are telling people they are doing Haraam without evidence that cannot be disputed, then we are making a mistake.

Assalamo aleikum, brother Mehdi are you saying that music can be halal? (sorry didn´t understand what you meant by ´debating´) and it is my mistake to not give evidence when you are telling people that they are doing someting wrong. But here is a verse from the quran as an evidence:

And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e.music, singing, etc.) to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah without knowledge, and takes it (the Path of Allah, the Verses of the Quran) by way of mockery. For such there will be a humiliating torment (in the Hell-fire).

Surat Al-Luqmaan vers 6

Akhi do you have to be a scholar to say something so fundemental as that?

wa-salam

As salaamu `alaikum,

"Idle Talks" (lahw al-Hadith) does not mean music. It means anything that distracts you from the worship and obedience of Allah at that given time. So it can be anything, even reading a book when the Adhan is called can fall into that category.

Sure, music can be "lahw al-Hadith" if is contains Haraam lyrics and/or is distracting from obeying Allah. So can books, TV, the Internet, etc.

Several scholars such as Ibn Hazm and many others said music in general is not Haraam.

That is why this issue must be debated with people that have knowledge of the issue, not someone who just quotes an ayah or a Hadith without knowing its full meaning as well as other evidence and scholarly debates on the issue at hand.

I have received many emails and comments about doing one of the future video episodes about the halal/haram aspect of music. The reason that I have not and do not plan to talk about debatable Fiqh issues is because I am not scholar not will I pretend to be one. I do not want to say something is halal/haram and have everyone follow it, only to stand in front of Allah (swt) and answer for that. I don't need that burden on my shoulders on the Day of Judgment.

I use to be into listening music back in the days but I noticed the impact. Even unconsciously, it effects you. Ever wonder why they are playing Christmas songs in ever other store you walk into during the holiday season here? They want to get the music stuck in your head so you remember its the holiday, so you remember to buy stuff. I'm just walking into the store to buy some fruit and I walk out with jingle bells stuck in my head and I'm not Christian/Catholic. joke!

Personally, I'm not into music anymore. I do not promote it nor do I give it the green light for anyone to listen to it. Since over 90% of the lyrics out there is garbage anyways, I really didn't see the point of it either. Nevertheless, I suggest that each person does their research and speaks to someone qualified and knowledgeable about any fiqhi opinion before they follow it InshAllah. And remember, even if something is halal, if it is going to lead you astray and take you away from your Deen, then it may become Haram for you.

Anyways, that's my 2 cents.

Assalamo aleikum, akhi Mehdi when you are giving tafseer to an ayah in the quran, please write down where you got it, if it is from the prophet, the sahaaba or other known scholars jazakAllahu kheyr.

Concerning the ayah in suurat al-luqmaan the scholar of the ummah, Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: this means singing. Mujaahid (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: this means playing the drum (tabl). (Tafseer al-Tabari, 21/40).

Al-Hasan al-Basri (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: this aayah was revealed concerning singing and musical instruments (lit. woodwind instruments). (Tafseer Ibn Katheer, 3/451).

And how about an hadith from prophet Muhammad sallaAllahu 'aleyhi wa sallam himself:

The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“Among my ummah there will certainly be people who permit zinaa, silk, alcohol and musical instruments…” (Narrated by al-BUKHARI ta’leeqan, no. 5590; narrated as mawsool by al-Tabaraani and al-Bayhaqi. See al-Silsilah al-Saheehah by al-Albaani, 91).

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said concerning this hadeeth: This is a saheeh hadeeth narrated by al-Bukhaari in his Saheeh, where he quoted it as evidence.

This hadeeth indicates in two ways that musical instruments and enjoyment of listening to music are haraam. The first is the fact that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “[they] permit” which clearly indicates that the things mentioned, including musical instruments, are haraam according to sharee’ah, but those people will permit them. The second is the fact that musical instruments are mentioned alongside things which are definitely known to be haraam, i.e., zinaa and alcohol: if they (musical instruments) were not haraam, why would they be mentioned alongside these things? (adapted from al-Silsilah al-Saheehah by al-Albaani, 1/140-141)

Is music still halal to you?

wa-salam

Excellent work, there are some translations that are just awful, I have seen some translations in the big network channels that are so idiotic, I know spanish almost perfectly and I know what I'm talking about.
