Jazallahu Khayrn for your insight. You have made great points and nailed every single one of them. What better reward is having your wedding at a Masjid. Oh the glory of knowing is beyond this world. May Allah protect us from the whispers of Shaytan and the enjoyment of the worldly life. Ameen

You have the support of www.qarxis.com. We look forward to your future videoblogs. Keep up your unique style of making da'wah and Jazakallahu Khayrn again.

This in my opinion is by far the best video blog so far. The material was great and so was the editing. Flawless timing and snappy and witty lines make it even better.

Insha Allah, we plan to continue this type of quality in Ummah Films. Whether it be video blogs, movies, commercials, etc., we will continue to produce material that is not only entertaining but what is relevant in today's world with the power and truth of da`wah.

I have a comments to the site administrator and those who leave comments...with all do respect to brothers and sisters...these comments should not become an advertising forum/post...this blog was meant for comments and that's it...if you want to advertise coordinate with the site administrator...I have visited some of the links advertise on the post and I don't think it was/is within the Islamic standard. (wouldn’t recommended to my kids )..Especially if this site meant for Dawah...the site administrator is responsible to its audience and most importantly to Allah, to the best of their ability to filter the comments and provide the Islamic standard materials and sources/links...

bravo. and you say you're not an actor...I think not. It was motivating, hilairous, and insightful. Mashallah, such a great reminder to hold onto what's important in Islam.

At June 16, 2006 9:28 PM, Blogger Baba Ali said...

Not an actor at all. I actually feel uncomfortable and a little nervous when I do it.

When I did this video clip. I was alone in a room (just me and a camera) so its almost like talking to yourself. Its very wierd.

Anyways, the idea behind using a little humor is that I figure people are more likely to remember and pass the video around if its not dry and boring, and I try to put a positive reminder in it as well.

in terms of presentation, execution, and humor, good stuff once again mashallah. however in terms of the content, im not entirely sure that all the details you mentioned are as widely representative of most muslim weddings as you might be giving the impression of. sure, many muslims go overboard with the weddings and spend more than they need to.. but making the newleyweds shoulder the debt? i was under the impression that its usually the parents who pay for the wedding. but maybe this varies depending on the particular culture. a few other details i thougth were either too generalizing or i found it hard to think of real life examples where ive seen that myself. but as for the recommendations you gave, i agree that theyre all sound and practical things.

but regardless, its good to see that youre trying to be consitent with this.. look forward to next week's episode :oD

I encourage the maker of these films to spread this da`wah out to the Muslim community!!! Make CD's and distribute them, or something! (that's if you're not already doing that)

Ma sha' Allah. That was absolutely hilarious, AND it made some wonderful points. Jazakum allahu khayran for your efforts.

I just wanted to give you a reminder not to somehow slip into making fun of the deen. I say this not because I have seen this from this site already (on the contrary, what I have thus seen is reverence for Islam and the sunnah), but because I have seen others who try to make "funny Islamic videos" fall into this very dangerous matter.

Anyway, keep up the good work. May Allah grant you the best of both worlds. Ameen.

At June 19, 2006 7:51 AM, Blogger Mahdi Ahmad said...

As-salaamu `alaikum,

We at Ummah Films realize what is good humor and what is not, and we know that mocking the deen is NOT good humor but stupid, repulsive and even HARAAM.

If we want to do da`wah and try to raise the awareness of Muslims, we should never try to descend into the so-called "self-deprecating" humor of making fun of not only ourselves but our deen.

Many of us seen on the Internet videos where Muslims have mocked everything from Salaah (prayer) to the beliefs of Islam. How is this da`wah or trying to raise awareness?

May Allah save us from ignorance...

Just a quick tip - maybe it's only me, but your videos begin playing immediately. In other words, because there's no actual "play" button for me to press, they all start playing. At once. So I am bombarded with dowries and khutbas and something else simultaneously.

But I saw one of your videos on YouTube. Keep up the great work (:

everything is excellenTT except a lillll thingy at the beginning...
when the title "ummah films" is presented with flames, there is some music in the background.. the majority of the scholars say that music is haraam (except the daff). there is a hadith of the prophet (S) which says...

Sayyiduna Ali ibn Talib (Allah be pleased with him) reports that the blessed Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said: “When my Ummah begin doing fifteen things, they will be inflicted with tribulations, and (from those 15 things He said): “When female singers and musical instruments become common” (Sunan Tirmizi).

its still kind of a shady issue though, but to be safe..id stay away from it

i hope you arent offended from this commentt....i really love the rest of film though. it is entertaining and islamically educating.

This was very funny! I've heard that weddings are like that, especially desi weddings. I'm Moroccan though, and our weddings aren't a few hours, they are 5-7 days! I don't know how much they cost in American but things are always a little cheaper over there...so, insh'Allah, I'll find out one day.

That was excellent bro!!!

Do not stop, I am putting some of your videos on my blog, and believe me you have a very big audience, its just they are too shy :s
Otherwise excellent points that you make ;)
Can I link your blog to mine?

Jazak Allah kheir.

At June 27, 2006 3:16 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Salaam Alaykum,

This is HILARIOUS because everything you said is TRUE (sadly)! My favorite parts:

-Being the only one at the wedding because 6:00 actually means 7

-Saying salaam to people you only see at Weddings, Eid, etc

-it's only a few hours of soda refills, eating and then the dreaded slideshow.

It would be great to have great halal entertainment like this (and more!) for Muslims to watch as an alternative to the stuff they have on these days. I'm looking forward to seeing more blogs and the future movies. Insha'Allah I'm sure they will be great.

Again, GREAT job on this one MASHA'ALLAH!

Just like to comment on what MERAJ said:

Yeah, not ALL muslim weddings are obviously like that, but it's true that most do go over the top and overspend (read go over their limit) to make this a memorable wedding for everyone to rememeber. Alos, you said that you were under the impression that it's the parents who usually pay. Well, it depends. If the kids are kind-hearted and realize what a burden it is they'll decide to pay forthemselves. If the children don't care or are selfish then yeah it's the rents paying. If the parents AND the kids are smart, then they'll share the costs.

Imagine, three sets of incomes covering the costs (or more if the wives work, etc)
Now that's smart.

And of course, weddings also involve presents. If you send a note with your greeting cards saying 'no boxed gifts please' then the guests will understand that you want cold, hard cash as presents and not unnessacary junk (imagine ten sets of cutlery, 20 sets of dishes, etc! What a waste!) SO it's better if you ask your guests politely to give you money so that you can spend it wisely on what you NEED to start your married life.

lololol. Also, its not always the parents who want expensive weddings. Its usually a spoiled bride. She wants eveything to be perfect for a few hours, but doesnt realize that she has many years to live in which she might need that money. THAT causes problems.

Salaam Br. Ali,

I THOROUGLY enjoyed all of vlogs that you have posted. Jazzaakallahukahir!
Btw regarding this $25 K wedding, it's soo true (altho' im not married yet.)
People in my culture would spend like CRAZY. And i don't see the need to.
One of the things that really ticked me during the weddings here is that they play ULTRA LOUD MUSIC. They even have karaoke. I can't even hear the person next to me. It's that bad. It's really unIslamic. Once it was time for Maghrib, the music was still being played! Ughh. It really got on my nerve. May Allah lead Us to the right path. Ameen.
Anyways, Alhamdulillah I've benefitted frm ur vlogs.

Salam FRM SINGAPORE :)

Funny, I could've sworn you were a comedian! Fantastic work, such inspiration!
So true about the amount of money spent on weddings. Learning more about Islam has inspired me to have a halal wedding. Lets hope my parents agree when the time comes! May Allah reward you for your good efforts in spreading the message of Islam.

I really know what u are saying brother, what people dont know is that divorce happens becuase of all the financial trouble that couples get through after marriage, the culture that we or others come from forces some muslims to do that.
a friend of mine just g
raduated and got married for $50,000. of cours his father paid for everything. my friend (Engineer) and his wife (Engineer) will take 2-3 years to pay him back.

I really can’t buy this person at all. He’s an Iranian who’s not suffered the atrocity those Iranian young boys and girls have suffered and are suffering, having lived his life in America!
That is why he can praise Islam because he has no idea how it feels living under Islamic subjugation as a young person!
If he had had lived his life in Iran, I swear to God or Allah if you prefer as someone who’s been brain-washed by Arabic Culture and not by Real Islam because Arabs are a racist and arrogant nation and their arrogance has been blamed by God even in Koran. That’s why they insist to impose their language and culture to the whole world in the name of Islam whereas according to the real Islamic ideology, Islam is a global religion therefore, you don’t have to become an Arab in order to become a Muslim. You can keep your cultural appearance, name etc. and still be a Muslim but NO… They insist you have to grow a beard right after conversion, choose an “Arabic” name NOT “Islamic Name” because there is no such thing as Islamic Name being Islam a global religion and learn Arabic because you wouldn’t be a Muslim if you don’t pray to God or the Arabic God, Allah, if you don’t speak to him in Arabic! Apparently, God is an Arab and would not understand any language other than Arabic!
This person on the other hand has suffered some frustration in America which is not very hard to see what his frustrations has been! How can I see that?! It’s easy! He’s playing cool, funny, open-minded, even trying to be somewhat sexy! Where has he learned all these things?! To his admission, he’s been hanging out with white Americans and has been drinking, clubbing, chasing girls etc. He obviously has not been received well to his liking and has been disappointed and that’s why he’s become a Islam Lover. He’s fighting back! I think this guy’s so called activities are based on sheer selfish motive; therefore I cannot buy it or hoopla for it!

Salem Alikoum,

Wonderful! It's very funny and so true, even here in France!!! I hate to go to weddings just because of that. Trying to do things better than your neighboor (wedding's room, food, jewels, clothes, music...) whithout thinking about Allah. And you're also right about that : people make haram easy but halal so hard. Thanks for giving us alternatives, the idea of going to the Masjid is a great one. Allahou jazeek kayran akhi.
You do a great job Masha'Allah! Keep it up!

The video's AWESOME!!!!! At least in the States there's only one ceremony (the walima i guess). Here in the Indian Subcontinent, at least in Bangladesh, we have two holuds( a ceremony where ppl from the opposite side apply turmeric on the bride/groom... very icky!), mehendi, nikah, wedding, walima,, and some even have Qawali nites and something called aiburabhat (dunno wat that is). Basically, the whole thing goes on for about two weeks!

Again zazak'allah for the video!

Asalaamu alaik brother,
I've been watching your videos and can I say they are great mashallah, may you be rewarded Jazak allah. I've seen most your vids on youtube but I recently discovered the Ummahfilms.com website.

OK so here's my question: from watching, I see you can speak (persian) farsi/dari, I was wondering if you can try and make some of your vids in farsi/dari. I say this because you say somethings that are directed towards parents yet I know a lot of parents and elders that do not know english and wont be able to understand it (like my parents first of all). And I don't think I or anyone else can interpret it for them because you take on a few personas to show what you mean which makes a big impact (positively). So that when you are talking about "complaing" or "assuming its not their kids that are doing the haraam" and parents making some things easier for their kids/teens or adolescents like in this "$25,000 Muslim wedding video", how can they know or understand? Like you said, they haven't been to school or college here...and they may have an English barrier. And you along with the people working together raise some interesting and worthwhile knowing issues and questions to know and it will be great if our elder generation could have a chance to view it too. Especially this one and the complaining ones because I see it happening so much and its only getting worse! Its become kind of like a thing! You have to have A BIG Wedding for people who don't really appreciate it anyway and end up finding faults and talk how bad it was after attending. I know how stressed one of my own relatives and their spouse were while getting ready for their wedding. Yet they still had the pressure of doing it the "common way". So please if you can make some in farsi/dari too? I think that inshallah may make a difference.
Thank you,
Khatira

Assalam Alaikum, YOU ARE SO RIGHT! If parents only understand as soon as the children reach PUBERTY they are NO MORE CHILDREN but become ADULTS as per ISLAM. There are hormonal changes taking place! They should get them married off ASAP. So that they do not fall in to Haram when they are in Grade 7, 8 and soo on... Why dont parents understand this! Why! Why dont they give this RIGHT to their children. Look around, majority of grade 6, 7, 8 girls & guys have boyfriends and girlfriends. If parents make the halaal easier, they can practice this under the beautiful umbrella of Marriage.
