Salam Brother Ali - that was great. I can somewhat identify with this. I am a medical student in Europe and most of my classmates are younger and they LOVE going "out" (i.e. clubbing, bar-hopping) and I just tell them it's not my kind of thing/I don't enjoy it and they respect it ,though they admit they want me to come and would be happy, but I don't feel comfortable anyways, not to mention the environment (smoking, drinking, etc). Of course, this happens on Friday nights - so recently, I have "plans" to await the Ask Baba video, as its around 9 pm here when you post them. So hopefully, our brothers and sisters out there have understanding colleagues. Keep up the good work.
PS. Loved the " " reference. I tend to do that a bit too often!

Assalamualaikum

Good job man. Probably the best so far. Coz it really resembles the Reminder series. I hope ur other Ask Baba Ali videos contain the same level of quality and comedic timing.

salaam Bro :)
Here's some feedback on the videos:

..Too much talking, and little action starts to annoy me after watching the videos awhile.. Sometimes it's ok to have silent moments in movies. Silent and slow manner of talking can create impact, or allow the audience time to absorb and think..

Nonverbal communications are still communication.

It get monotonous when there's only one-same-looking guy does the talking. Check out HappySlip on youtube for some techniques. ;)

peace,
aimi

Aimi, I've been watching the videos from when they started and if you don't know by now, this is his style and judging by his actions, it doesn't look like he has any plans on changing it. Then again, why should he when he has million of views showing him that it works?

salam 3aleikum brother,I've noticed that you made a mistake in your videos, it's not marham but instead it's pronounced "mahram".

At September 07, 2008 9:38 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

dear brother,
AoA,
uptil now I used to mute my speakers when you played the 'Ask Baba Ali' song cause I thought that it was music, so I'm really glad that you cleared that up. Jazakallah. Apart from that the whole video was very good and funny and helpful, and you're terribly right about people leaving you alone when you say the 'R' word. Yup, I mean 'religion.' I get very annoyed by that. Its like they're snubbing you or something.

So, is it ok for you to LIE about being "sick" to get out of the holiday work party because you're presumably not lying to a "Muslim" boss and you don't owe any honesty to us "infidels"? And when you don't get a promotion because the management doesn't think you have any company spirit because you don't want to socialize with people with whom you have nothing in "common", are you going to claim it's discrimination; even though all the rest of us "infidels" have to play the same silly games to get ahead? And you're not very tolerant of people with particular american accents are you? I wonder why you think that we should be more understanding of your culture when you are so critical and dismissive of ours? You're no different than radical islamic elements; just less upfront about it. You expect us to respect your beliefs and practices, but you abhor and denounce ours. There is nothing "peaceful" about that.

Slmz brother...
i really love ur vidoes... they're especially good because the youth of todays ummah have so many twisted and confused ideas about our islam and sometimes its more effective when someone from amongst your age group tells you "this is wrong" then when these old men and women come up to you and start whacking you with their walking sticks because your a "bad person"
anywa, keep it up! may allah grant you even more knowledge and reward you for explaining some major problems in todays society
from your sister in islam

Well the prophet never rejected invitations to such events(e.g. he was invited to have a meal with a jewish neighbour she then tried to posion him and he still went)
so it's clearly sunnah not to lie to these people and accept the invitation.
However if you really don't wish to go as your afraid of drinking alcohol, and losing ur faith. i suggest you tell them that and they shoould understand if not well who cares just dont go!
