Vote for Promo - Poster
Bismillah ar-Rahmaan ar-Raheem,
Asalam alaikum everyone,We have created a promotional sample for the Tomorrow Never Comes blog poster. We need your help to choose the right one.
When Ummah Films was launched in 2006 with the idea of making short films. Baba Ali worked on a script called "Tomorrow Never Comes" but for one reason or another, the movie never got made. Since then, Baba Ali has been keeping myself busy doing the The Reminder Video Blogs on the Ummah Films site.
We don't expect the finished product to look like something straight out of Hollywood type because this is our first try but we want to at least try to make it decent. Its always easy being a critic but once YOU have to do it, then its a whole new ballgame.
The film is a short (only about 5 to 10 minutes in length) and its the first film project from Ummah Films.

1 and 2 look exactly the same, as do 3 and 4 (??)
you have to click on the image, one is much closer to a real image without an effect. The first ones in each set actually has an effect. the second of each set (the second black, and second brown) are mainly the original picture.
neither!!!! what were you guys thinking when coming up with this??
I hope the acting is better than the posing.
Salama'likoum,
I would like to know what does this moovie talk about, what is your goal ? I want help muslim but I need to have details about that.
Thanks a lot.

I don't like the designs. They are dull and lack appeal. I don't get the blue line under the title, looks odd.
Thanks
Shahid
have to agree with everyone, its not the prettiest poster. maybe you should scratch that idea and start a new one. this is tacky wacky.
option 3, but i cant seem to vote :)
I much prefer the black background to the orange, but I would like to suggest a small alteration to the tag line:
Life is like a dream...
You don't wake up until you die.
(rather than "until you're dead").
I'd go with 2, but I'm not crazy about any of them. It's hard to tell you which poster is the best anyway without an idea of the story line.
If you're set on displaying the actors so prominently in the poster, I would try to give some sense of their character (in relation to the plot) instead of just a simple profile picture that doesn't really mean anything to us who haven't seen the film. Of course, if they're famous, you can get away with that, but we've never seen these guys before.
I also agree with imuslim's suggestion to change the line to "until you're dead".
the face is too in your face!
salams
i think the actor didnt posed well..but the design is well done mashaAllah
Am really up set with these posters ARGHH...Am really not satisfied!!!
the first and second posters are identical, the same thing for the third and forth ones!!! :s :s
I cant find a link between " Tomorrow never comes" and all the posters.
I think it s better to have one person on the poster, and the watch is not the only thing that can express time( an old man or woman can be much expressive...). You dont have to use the photoshop to create, or give us the " notion of time"
Am criticising to help you brothers :D
salam aleykum

i think it could be better designed. I never voted for any.
:(
Assalamaualaikum.
have to agree with others on this...
neither of them are appealing.
sorry.
I don't like any of them either. Sorry.
they all suck sorry, and the blue line...agh get rid of that then get knew models, better acting
Is this a horror movie like psycho or the night of living dead or resident evil?
Too much, too many things. Did not like any of them thumbs down
You should have another vote button called all bad design and I vote for that
Ahhhh scary (:O
I like #2.
I am actually really surprised by the negative comments...
I don't think they are hideous as those who are commenting are making them out to be!
I can't see how it is scary.
not bad, but I liked the one from the TNC blog better (header)
...so is there any chance of making another one? lol (sometimes its better not to have any people at all, or to actually hire someone who does these for a living lool)
i think the only reason why people are leaving negative comments is because you need a very sharp representation of this movie. whatever design you make reflects your professionalism and the muslim community in general. with all due respect, there are some kids in my high school that can photoshop a promo poster a million times better than any of those, and that's definitely not something you want for ummahfilms or any of your productions.
the saying on the posters is AMAZING though, "life is like a dream.. you only wake up when you're dead" really opened up my eyes.
I think I agree with 99% of all crits on these posters (sorry), and I also have a few more.
No BLUE underlining of words
No "Oil paint" effect/filter
when cutting out the person outline, you should "feather" the selection, so there is a small alpha channel around the edge. This stop him looking so much like superimposed or 1980's style blue screen projection
also need to do something (more than that) with second guy's hair, it looks like a concrete block! may need a special filter to fix that
on the other hand, if you wanna go the opposite rout, make the characters "pop out", give them a subtle glow or drop shadow.
Also, I think an "hour glass" or "sand through fingers" is a more powerful symbolism than a clock face, it has more finality about it, and less distracting details (less busy).
I hope this helps, and is accepted with the same good intentions and modesty that we all aspire to.
Another thought: if you put hi-res jpegs (or ziped TIFFs) of all the component assets you wanna use on the site, then everyone can make their own poster, upload, and then there will be a real competition and a real choice.
I think with a striking title as that, you can make a much more appealing poster.
I think the problem is that the faces of the two guys on the posters are too big. They cover almost half the poster.
All the best!
I favor number one. There is a subtle hint of anger and sadness that the face catches that is lacking in the others. The second one is nearly identical, but the extra frown lines between the eyes gives too much emphasis on anger and misses the sadness that is also seen in #1
Asalam alaikum,
May Allah swt reward you all for your feedback. We will take your comments into consideration. Jazkaum Allah.
