Masha'allah great film...seriously its true how we take for granted the fact that we are here. We always plan for the future but sometimes forget that the future may not come us. Great topic for your first film. Thanks for the reminder.

Who is Mahdi?

Wait, wasn't he making that other film? Whatever happened to that? I know he posted here about Ummah Films first movie, but not much else has happened from what I know.

Real Good one! I found myself thanking AllahSWT for aafiyah I am in,alhamdulillah, when I saw the actor coping with losing hearing and eye-sight. A good soul shake!

I was real glad when the film didnot start with music but later on there was some in it. I just hope from AllahSWT we are able to improvise without it inshAllah.

Allah SWT enable us always to achieve Ehsaan in whatever we do for His sake, amin

Asalam alaykum,

It's more like a daytime soap opera than a film. I don't know how else to explain that.

I really liked the message, but the voice over was heavy handed, the music was cheesy, and the editing could have been tighter.

Either than that it was a really great. Good job!!

At May 01, 2008 5:58 PM, Blogger farooq said...

It was totally like a soap opera and not like a film. The acting after waking up from the dream could have been better when he was thanking God. Also when he is waking up shaking his head and all should be one seen, you could see the editing..lol. The close ups on Hassan's face were pretty bad, I don't know why but the close ups on the other guy were much better...One great thing is the acting of Hassan during his stages of losing his sense's. Pretty good job guys congrats, I have made some short movies before and it is a lot harder than it looks.

oh yeah, i think i saw a typo there. The title in the film says "TomMorrow " with double M's there.
Anyway, that doesnt affect the film in any aspect much. Still, good one.

Jazaakum Allahu khayr to anyone who helped to put this together, may Allah subhaanahu wa ta'aala reward you all. This really came at a time of need. SubhaanAllah, we are destined to see/hear/know things when we need them the most, and I needed this, and alhamdulillah it was available thanks to your efforts and Allah's Will. It brought tears to my eyes and I really want to see a professional movie done. Not that this wasn't done professionally, mashaa'Allah. :)

May Allah reward your efforts greatly, aameen, thumma aameen.

Great movie, great acting, good directing.

Only one complaint, the musical instruments. I'm sure you could have avoided them, more people will watch your movies and learn from them if you avoid musical instruments.

You can get good enough background music using just duff, vocals and nasheeds.

Otherwise, the movie was great and beneficial.

Salaamu 'Alaikum,

The beginning dream part was the best portion. The rest was a bit dodgy at times with the editing and acting.

But such things can be overlooked because of how this whole thing came about, and it being the first time you all attempted such a project.

Great effort and work. Insha'allaah, you will make more and they will only get better.

It's good to actually see a film come out of Ummah Films!

Music :(
Big disappointment. I used to enjoy watching Ummah Films because of one main reason: Halaal and entertaining. It's really hard I know to not conform to the ideas set in stone to what a good movie should contain, but that's where the REAL challenge lies. Everyone makes movies...so what's the difference? There are soo many movies out there with good messages, how is this one any different? All I'm trying to point out here is that masha'Allah I loved this film and I really think everyone did a great job and insha'Allah fee sabil Illah, but let's stick to the guidelines of Allah(swt) for an even greater success insha'Allah!

Allahu yahdeekum :)

nice work. it felt a little drawn out. ali, it didnt seem to be cut by you. i'm guessing the editing was done by someone else. great for first time experiment. main suggestion would be to make it move faster.

Great film. Not a muslim and still liked it. Hope the criticism doesn't get to you. You're stuff is really great. The complainers are just that: complainers. You are putting your time and effort into something that really does reach a lot of people. Don't get discouraged because some don't appreciate what you do. I'd bet that most of those who like it don't even say anything, while those who don't like it always say something. Keep that in mind. Congrats to the whole crew on a job well done.

Assalaamu alaikum

I don't want to take away the hard work but I have to say, I was a little dissppointed and hope you take my words as someone sharing what he thinks. And yes, I'd love to help out in next movie.

I think the script was not really original enough for me. It was about death, which mostly every Muslim who writes or makes a movie, or reminder, usually do. Raising an issue that people don't write or make a movie about.

I just thought it would be more creative enough in approaching a new angle, something that not everyone does.

Also, the beginning, did not fit with the rest of the movie, where he cannot hear, or cannot see. Yes, I know what the message was there but in writing movies, or script, you have to zone in the challenge, friction to one thing or if there are many, they kind of need to flow with each other.

If people see the video and honest, they'd know what I mean. The begining of the movie doesn't really go with the rest of the movie.

But overall, I also liked the comittment, dedication, the team work that got this movie together. As we know, it takes a lot of work, a lot of time, a lot of comittement too and not easy on a small budget either.

It's good to share ideas but one must also give a helping a hand to help as well. As we Muslims can critise a lot and not help out. So, when I see you doing something again, I'll get involved.

That's my honest opinion.

Congrats and good comittement to finishing it.

Wassalaam

wanted to remind u all (may allah bless you) that it is not permissuble in islam to use musical instruments, so for the sake of our pure intentions..make it right so Allah may bless us all and give us benifits from our work in dunia and akhera.
i had to keep lowering it and raiseing it again to avoid the music.

asalamualaykum wa rahmatullah,

it had a good moral, and i really think that ummahfilms could achieve some awesome stuff bi idhn Allah, especially with the next big film being planned.

what makes me have such high hopes for ummahfilms is their dedication to providing entirely HALAL films, and to follow the qur'an and sunnah foremost and make sure their productions abide by the limits set down by Allah and His messenger.

which is why i have to give the following naseeha to my brothers and sisters at ummahfilms:

i heard a lot of background music in this film. as probably you are aware already, musical instruments are haraam according to 1. certain verses of qur'an which forbid lahwul hadith - and according to scholars such as ibn kathir and ibn taymiyyah - this refers to music. 2. a few hadith of the prophet sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam, for example the one recorded in bukhari ((From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks, and the use of musical instruments, as lawful.))

i have never heard any scholar whom i trust my deen with say otherwise on this issue. if i am lacking some information in this issue, then please convince me using your proofs from qur'an and sunnah. otherwise, i remind myself first :) and remind you all as well - that SUCCESS - in this world and the next - can ONLY be achieved through complete obedience to Allah and His messenger. so trust that Allah will bless and support your productions on the condition that you abide by the limits set by Him. and true success is ONLY in His hands.

may Allah grant us all guidance, and guide me if i am mistaken on this issue, and guide you if you are mistaken, inshaAllah.

ASA,

I really appreciate this work ... thank you so much ... great point made here ... I am not in film so I can't critic from that point of view ... the message was clear and to the point and I appreciate your work.
I thought the music fit the flim well ... maybe people are complaining about the rap style music on the basketball court scene??? May Allaah bless all of you and help you keep this growing Ameen ... I will make a donation myself as well ... you have my creative energy flowing ... huummmmmmmmmmm ... no one had prior acting experience ... I think I will try something like this with my sisters group inshaAllaah ... it hurts so much to see so many sisters on myspace pages and other sites with their breasts exposed and clothes that should not be worn on a public site! even if we don't believe we should cover our hair please sisters cover your bodies properly ... modesty now or as the video demonstrates you may run out of time!

thanks so much for this work
