Kalimaat Commercials: Help me decide....

Bismillah ar-Rahmaan ar-Raheem,

I asked two USC film students to make me a commercial for my new Kalimaat game. I told them they can do whatever they wanted as long as they followed some basic Islamic guidelines. By the way, the actresses in the video are all non-Muslim hijabies. I can't take credit or critisim for either video because I didn't write, edit, or direct them. Anyways, I wanted to get your feedback on which one (if any) I should go with. Here are the two videos:

Video #1
(made by Ken)
Video #2 (made by Adnan)

By the way, if your interested in learning more about the game, there is cool "How to Play" video on my site: www.babaaligames.com

Salam!
Both commercials were good, but the second one was just a bit better, especially the ending :)

Both made me burst out laughing in the middle of work, but the second is my pick. The first is less elaborate and engaging, the second one makes you think more and makes the game seem entertaining and fun.

I think the second one is the best. It is more exciting and makes me want to buy the game.

The second one is funnier. I'd also pick it for this one line:

*While looking at the word "Fox"*
"Its the trashiest channel on television!"

That was sooo funny :D

Assalaamu alaikum

The second for very good reasons within the world of marketing, which I come from..

1. It doesn't just show women. It shows different genders, which opens the market wider for you. The first one only shows women.

You don't want to restrict your product to just one gender except if that's who you're only targeting.

2. It has a balance, in which this can be shown globally, whether in UK, or USA or anywhere because the accent isn't british or American but can actually work for any english spoken country and non-spoken english country.

3. The second one also touches on issues, in a comical way, that people going through from different genders.

So again, it's relatable as well and it brings it across in a funny way.

4. The final part, it breaks the boundaries, in showing different cultures. So now it shows what you needed it to show as well as the product..

a) Target audience, male and female.

b) It crosses all borders and shows no resistence to just one culture. And global.

c) It reveals issues in a funny light.

The first one is kind of funny but..

1. It's not broad enough.

2. It's just one gender...females.

3. It doesn't touch on different issues Muslims and non-Muslim face within the game and loses it a bit and tries too hard.

4. It has that punch in it, that can slightly cause you some problems in future.

Final Suggestions...
I'd test it out by creating two pages online, and create ads using PPC to test out which converts the better.

Or, if you can, when you show it on TV, see which one reveals better stats but definitely, the second one works really well.

Wassalaam

just a thought !

can't there be a commercial without showing girls in them, good looking ones ?

don't get me wrong here , this has nothing to do with sexism etc...

its just : it makes me wonder why women accept that. being used to sell.

just a thought

Assalamu alaykum..

They're both unislamic Baba Ali.

The women, the way they are behaving, the dresses they're wearing, the interaction between the man and woman (at the end)..

As for the comment from the marketer's point of view, Allah is Ar-Razzaaq, the One Who provides sustenance and the One to Whom all power belongs and the One in Whose control the hearts of your potential customers are!! I'm sure there's a halal way to make an ad which will lead to sales of your game.

Get rid of the marriage part and girl and guy looking at eachother at the end then go for that one. Keeping that part stoops as low as any other Western commercial, where EVERYTHING leads to love.

salam! i choose number 2!
the punching part in number 1 just turns me off. no offence!well done to both cos both of them made me burst into laughter. =)

Assalam Alaikum (Peace be upon you)

I think they're both really good but if I had to pick a fabourite I would go with the second one. The only drawback is it's longer.

I have to say it's really tough picking a favourite

If I have to pick one it would be the second.

The first one was good except for the "pointing at everything" and the PUNCH at the end that was really WACK!, One Muslim sister punching another is not cool,i did like the first with a African American in it to show some diversity...

And the second was a little better...because it showed possible non-Muslim men playing and women..and the bit at the end was funny.

I don't see anything Islamic about the game so no reason to have Muslims only playing right?

It was interesting to see the perspective of non-Muslim film producers create somethingo that is related to Muslims.

Salaam Baba Ali!
Kalimaat seems cool!
I liked the second advertisement moreso than the first.
I think the fox joke should come first, because it will attract attention from the viewer to stop flicking channels, and people will watch it! and then the old grandma bit was funny! and the guy getting slapped for saying divorce!
Is it out in the UK yet?

p.s. I like how baba ali tried getting in the 2nd advertisment behind the magazine! hahaha

Asalaamu alaikum,
the second one... but like sister Jameelah stated the unnecessary interaction at the end could(or should) be taken off.
Will Kalimaat be available in Dubai?

Baba,

If you have time, why don't you direct the game commercial, i'm sure it would be the best...

The first one seems a bit drawn out and Muslim violence (punching in the face)is never a good idea and goes against hadith lessons.

Even tho I am old enough to be your mother, the second one made my mind go dirty with the first couple of sentences. Bananas, puberty...

I think the second one is better because it's more realistic. The first one is too. . .hyper or I don't know how to say it. They all act like crazy cartoons! But the second one is longer, shows more of the game, is still funny, and for the other reasons people have mentioned so far.

Hey Baba Ali, I don't mean to stress you out more, but what happened to the movie you were making?

Salam,
both commercials were very good but i think the second one was better because it made the game seem more interesting and fun, hope that helps.

BaBa Ali :

our point is to make entertainment that is Islamic ie not having things that are haram

why would we then have the commercial to it contain things that ....

i agree to what has been said that we shouldn't be doing this that way !

you'b succedded in providing entertainment that gives a lesson and makes people just relax and have fun.

plz don't get caught in the other net :(

Salam Br. Ali - yeah, the second is better. I liked the ending of course too! :-) All the best for the sales and success of hte game in general. Ma'salaam

Whoa Kathy... I thought I was the only one who noticed those words! I mean... are those words even on the same card? O_o
If those words could be changed, that would be great + what I mentioned earlier.

I think you should stick to the second one because I got the game watching it.
The second one was just a young woman going 'oooh oooh ooh' and pointing at objects... with the other lady not using her brain at all and putting down a token.
I'm like... taboo with tokens?
I got the token bit in the second video.

second one, definitely. funnier, catchy and explains better.

Kalimaat one shows a very negative image of muslims, and expresses violence. kalimaat 2 is nice except the ending, its a bit unislamic, and i think a bit of music is also involved, but anyways, if you have another choice, that would be preferred.

Sallams, the second one is the best, but do take out the last bit, and use that as your commercial, but both of them were really funny.

Sallamz,
The second commercial is better but your contradicting what you are teaching in your reminders. i.e. haraam. if you do use the second one, jus take out the last part please.

i have to say that many brothers and sisters have pointed out that both commercials have un-islamic things

i have to say that i agree !

Salaamu Alaikum brother baba ali.

I would definitely choose the second. It is exciting and fun, and most of all urges me to wanna buy the game and join in the fun lol.
