Topic for the first episode of Season 2 - Hijab?

Bismillah ar-Rahmaan ar-Raheem,

JazakAllah khair for all the emails. SubhanAllah, there are two people answering emails constantly and we are still unable to reach the unread email count down to zero. The lowest we got it down was 43 emails to respond to but while you're answer one email, more emails are coming in and it feels like an endless struggle. Now I know what the mailman feels like. Your words of support really encourages us to continue with the projects of Ummah Films. JazakAllah khair.

Many of the emails have about suggestions/topic ideas for upcomings shows. Alhamdulillah there have been plenty of great suggestions but I can only choose some of them. Since my goal is to complete 8 new episodes for Season 2, I can only have 8 new topics for this season. If there is a Season 3, I can use the other topics then InshAllah. Since I write, edit, and film the shows myself, its very time consuming. I have a normal life like everyone else and last season, I found myself up until the middle of the night trying to write/edit/and film some of the episodes. After a while, you feel burned out and I don't want to do it for the sake of doign it. I want to do it for the right reasons InshAllah.

I think the reason some people find "The Reminder" series entertaining is because it deals with topics that we often may think about but not necessarily say (kinda of like what comedians do..bringing up topics that some people are too afraid to say but since its done in humour...people aren't offended). So I brought up these issues with my opinions on them and people laughed. Some topics were more serious while others were comical but for some reason or another....people watched. I told Thinking Brother that if I do episode 8 "Culture vs Islam", we were going to lose viewers because it was a "sensitive" topic. Keep in mind, my goal wasn't to win a popularity contest but rather speak the truth. Well the impact was the exact opposite...we didn't lose viewers...we gained much more than before (I was suprised). Amazing enough, around 100,000 people a month are watching the videos and Season 1 ended a while ago.

The goal with the videos is to remind the viewer and myself of the little things that we do that is not part of Islam and that we should go back to practicing Islam properly so we can be successful in this life and in the hereafter.

For Season 2, I want to continue the same trend up of bringing up the unspoken issues, even if it means that I have to bring up sensitive topics. If I do bring up a common topic like withu/prayer, I don't want to say the things we have all heard already so many times in lectures/khutbah but rather I want to talk about the side of those issues that often goes unaddressed.

So what the first topic on Season 2? Hijab.

Hijab? (you can't be serious?...)

the hijab is a good topic i think... because many ppl believe it's just a scarf u wear on ur head but it's much more than that. but also, like u had done the video about problems during congregation prayer, maybe u can do something like that but for sisters, because during tarawih this year (and last and the year before) i've seen soo many sisters who have no clue at all. like wearing nailpolish while praying (doesn't validate wudhu), or not wearing proper clothes, feeling like coming to the masjid is fardh upon them too, etc... ESPECIALLY how much they talk during khutbah! i know u're a brother and can't really relate to it, but it'd be nice to hear some sister-topics as well, insha'Allah the hijab one will help :)

Assalamu alaykum

Hijab is a great topic as many people believe it is just the head scarf!
Hijab is a way to dress, and a way of life, an attitude ...

May Allah reward you for taking so much time reminding people, in a funny way! Easier to accept for some!

awesome topic, ive been waiting for this one! i dont wear hijab but ive been thinking about it, is it rly required? will you go to hell for not wearing it? hope to see the answers to those questions in the video. i loved season one by the way!

Hijab is an excellent topic to cover! I practice hijab at the first degree;just covering my hair with the headscraf, and sometimes i waer the second degree; covering my body modestly with a long flowing gown:jilbab.
The reason it is a great topic to cover is that there are SO many misconceptions you have to cover; oppression/being forced etc, and this will be the easiest way to explain those. Also, it makes others and ourselves aware of it.
BTW how about alcohol and dating in your next one?

Alhamdulilah....so many people think "hijab" is A) a scarf and B) just for women....I eagerly await this episode!!!! Insha'Allah...it will live up to expectations....Jazak Allah Khair for doing this--may Allah (SWT) reward you greatly

Salaams,

I don't wear a hijab so I know I'll be watching this and thinking afterwards about whether I should or not so yes please do it.

You'll actually be giving some us that extra push that we need to put it on! It'll also be very good for the blokes to be reminded about male hijab, or tell them what it actually entails.

P.S ...Your culture vs Islam one was one of the best from Series 1 , so the more seemingly taboo the subject the better I say (you're saying what we all think/would like to say!)

I also read someone had mentioned alcohol and dating which are GREAT topics, espc towards the muslim brothers who like to run after hoochie mama kafir women like chickens w/out a head then when the times comes go back 'home' and pick up a virgin wife, astafir'Allah.

Whatever topic you choose to talk about, I'm sure it's going to be an interesting topic to address.

Hijab especially needs to be understood, not just by the people who don't know it but also by our sisters in Islam who do wear it willingly.

JazakAllah Khair brother.

it kinda pisses me off when a brother talks about the hijab and how easy it is.. you don't wear it and you will never know what it's like to wear it.
it's not easy for some women to just put it on. maybe it is for those who have been forced to wear it since birth or have decided to wear it at an early age. it's a struggle for some people. and Allah swt knows no one is perfect.

asalamu'alekum...!!! well jst to be tru and honest..it's one of the subject i wanned to see in the videos tooo...!! so now since it's inshallah going to be there i am overjoyed..i observe the hijab myself..the headscarf..i have started to lower the gaze as it is required..but the thing is how does one observe jilbab when it is sed u cover urself modestly..but wen u put that across to parents or elders u get that it doesnt say u cant wear traditional clothes it means as long as it's modestly covered u dont wear the jilbab..is that tru bruv? well......
i jst also wanned to say that i loved season 1 and i am eagerly waiting for the second one to come out..!!

salaam aleikum,

3 things (and 1 suggestion) which i thought would be useful to consider for you as well as your readers:

1. Somehow consider mentioning the "politicized" nature of what the hijab has come to symbolize, the former British journalist who converted to Islam, Yvonne Ridley, captures it pretty good here:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/20/AR2006102001259.html

2. None of these issues is divorced from the ideological and culture war that is going on both inside the West and overseas in Muslim lands about Muslims/Islam, Women in Islam has always been an issue that is a flashpoint in this war, please feel free to read over Edward Said's work on Orientalism.

3. some mention of the fasiqs and munafiqs who are leading the charge to have women leading prayers, women giving ju'mah khutbahs, or even forcing Muslims to perform same-sex/gay marriages in the masjid (something the "progressive" Muslim lesbian Irshad Manji and her fellow neo-con sock puppet Tareq Fatah would like to see).

Lastly, this medium is giving u a potential platform and a voice which u can use and grow to do much more than simple cookbook da'wah, here is a quick read as to the trend I am referring to:

I was focusing on the word "Hijab", nothing else.
I think it is good to know how Allah has used the word Hijab in His book/message. I thought it would be helpful for the video blog.

Peace to everyone.
