Asalamalaykom,

Best to write it as FAQ in caps. When it is underlined, it looks like "fags". LOL, I know it's un-Islamic to say, but for real it does! Otherwise, of course it's an improvement.

Great website. Well designed and using everyday words and terms. Can't get easier than that!! To think that our creative brothers can create something so appealing without having to resort to sex and violence speaks alot for REAL creativity. Thats the real test of persons or organisations' abilities. To come up with something that is commcercially viable with limited resources. And Iman Studios, YOU ARE AWESOME!!. Doing such a good job for your brothers(and maybe sisters too??) at UF like that, May Allah SWT reward you for that.

salam

you made a comment in one of your videoblogs that you cannot answer salam during the jumma khutbah. i dont know if this is a sect thing, but as far as i know and understand it is obligatory to answer salam as it says in the quran, EVEN if you are praying. so say ahmad walks in while you are praying, says salam, you only reply with salam, not the whole winded reply. i would imagine the same applies for the khutbah. just a simple "salam" reply.

[Pickthal 4:86] When ye are greeted with a greeting, greet ye with a better than it or return it. Lo! Allah taketh count of all things.

Salaam ailikum to you Brothers.
As an older woman, and a recent convert to Islam (revert sounds soooo negative no matter the "correct" Islamic explanation), I have bemoaned the seriousness of most Muslims when presenting their ideas to the world. In fact, I wondered if Islamic comedy even existed. After all, most western humour is based on insults and matters of the body, not suitable for a decent Muslimah. You, my friends, make me laugh while you make perfect sense. I have sent your URL to Muslim friends around the globe, both converts and born to the faith, and so far the response has been... Ali has beautiful eyes (from the ladies) and a wicked wit (from both sexes). I eagerly await Season 2 and thank you so much for your fresh approach to life as a Muslim. You are not afraid to take on the Muslim community and its failings, things I, as a new Muslim, found to be most disheartening. Also, even more important, your humour and common sense gives me excellent material to present to my children so they can see and understand Islam without having to really stretch their minds. Insh'Allah tht will come when or if they decide to embrace Islam. Keep up the wonderful work, you are so very creative! I would love it if you did a bit on the pressure placed upon converts to take on Islamic names.

Assalaamualikkum Brother. I was wondering if you could do a video on the "hijab". There is a controversy at my university about whether or not the hijab is mandatory. This would be quite helpful. I am convinced that hijab is mandatory.

Also, I am really happy to see someone addressing these issues in Islam so openly. Alhumduillah. May Allah (swt) bless you. Ameen.

Hello...
Im not sure how, but I managed to stumble onto your site. I am supposed to be doing AP economics homework right now along with French and Chemistry, but I'm not. I have found myself browing your site and watching your movies. I want you to know that your "show" has changed me.. for the time-being atleast. I am a girl. I am growing up in Hong Kong, I never grew up in a muslim country, and I find it hard to adhere to my religion. I find myself flirting with guys, and doing things I should not be doing. Just about an hour ago I tried to persuade my mother to let my spend the night at my friends house, but i did not tell her there would be boys also spending the night. I am a bad muslim, a very bad muslim. I keep my rosa's but I do not read namaaz. I have read the Qu'ran twice in arabic, but that was not by will. I am lost, and I do not know where to go. I spoke to my whole school recently about my religion, i supported my religion, yet i felt no emottional connection to it. Whenver my friends talk to me about my religion or my culture, i feel the need to state that I DO NOT abide by my culture and that I DO NOT abide by the rules of my religion. I dont know why I am posting this here, but I just need a place to vent my frustration, and your movies made me realized what a mistake in life I am making. I want to be a good muslim girl, but I find that os hard because I am the only muslim in my school. I am lost, and I do not know what to do... I just needed to post that somewhere..

As salaamu `alaikum Zahra,

Insha Allah, you will return to practicing Islam for the sake of pleasing Allah and no one else. We hope that the realization that Allah exists and that Muhammad (saaws) is His last and final messenger and prophet should be suffice in making one adhere to the teachings of Islam.

We realize that living in an environment that is not conducive to Islam is very hard. We lived in America all our lives and we know the temptations. But Allah is most forgiving but at the same time, we cannot ignore His mercy because we were created for a reason, and that is to obey Him. We fall short so we get back up and try.

I suggest trying to attend a masjid, ask questions and correspond with Muslims either online or in person on Islam, especially those who know what it is like living in a non Muslim country and the temptations.

Assalamu alaykum. Future topics.
On the issue of hijab, some people in other countries think hijab is a dress that does not cover your hair. We have all heard some funny things about hijab, but you might also include a message for brothers. We know that sisters often don't wear hijab right or do things that are totally haraam while wearing hijab; but it seems sisters get this message while people are reluctant to give messages to brothers about being modest, etc.

Also Converts or reverts to Islam are always being asked (and sometimes forced) into telling the story of how they converted. People that are raised muslims are never asked to tell the story of how they finally decided to follow Islam from their heart and not just what their parents or what their family does. As a convert/revert I can share a funny story. I was born and raised in the US. One time I was at the mosque and an older sister from an Arab country who was born Muslim approached me and two other convert/revert sisters. The scenario was a little like this.

Older sister: Assalamu alaykum. So did you become Muslim or were you born muslim?

Two sisters: (eye rolling)

Me: I converted to Islam just like many Sahabi at the time of the prophet salalahu alayhi wa salam

Older Sister: So what does your god think about you becoming Muslim?

Me: What? I'm confused. Wouldn't Allah be happy with me being Muslim?

Older Sister: No. I meant YOUR god.

Two America sisters: (Getting an Omigod look on their faces)

Me: You mean Allah?

Older Sister: No, you know, that guy with the beard that you call god...

Me: AstagfirAllah, nobody knows what Allah looks like!

Older Sister: Do, that guy with the beard that you guys say had a baby?

Me: SubHan Allah wa ta alaa, Allah did not have any children. If you read surat al ikhlas, Muslims believe that Allah was not begotten nor does he beget. And nobody knows what Allah looks like.

One of the two American Sister: I think she is talking about Isa alayhi salaam

Older Sister: Yes, your god Isa alayhi salaam

Me: Well actually since I am Muslim, we believe that there is no god but Allah and Isa alayhi salaam is a Prophet and a man, not the son of god or god. And nobody knows what Allah looks like.

Older Sister: No, you don't understand...what does your god think about you becoming Muslim

Two American Sister and me: (We just shake our heads and don't know what to say).

asalaam walkium,
i was watching one of your videos about the whats not hijab. and i thought it was very interesting and insightful. but one of the things you said about the "micky mouse hijabies" lol (funny), I wasnt aware that we werent permitted to show our ears. and i enjoy wearing earrings :). but usually i dont wear my hijab they way you say the micky mouse hijabies do. i have it wraped around and it looks like a hood, so then my earrings show, and my ears are relaxed. but anyways to get to the point. is it ok to just show my ear lobe, like showing the bear minimum of the ear? or is that just a big no no too? I mean I'm not objective to not wearing the earrings at all, but i would like to keep them and wear them, if i can. so plz give me your feedback when you can, shukran jazeelan.

wasalaam bro.

I am a Catholic woman, I have been slowly making my way through your short films. I am not only very entertained, I have been informed. I am a more enlightened Christian, as I have read several sections of the Koran. I also do not believe that the Bible is the true word of God. I am Pro Choice and I am a Democrat who believes in Capital Punishment. All that aside, it is still very hard not to buy in to the media crap that is spoon feed to the masses on a daily basis. I like to believe that not everyone is a terrorist (given that I come from the first religion that was pro terrorist, the Crusades come to mind). Rationally, I can see Muslim as a wonderful peaceful religion, like I see my own religion. I cannot see why I am bombarded with images of people wanting to kill me because I am American, Christian. I am so thankful I found your films. It makes me see that there are people who fully practice the Islamic religion that, if I believed all the crap on CNN has already declared war on me, as peaceful loving people who just want to be good role models. Thank you for this. Please keep educating everyone, I am a better person for seeing your films. May God be with you, and bless all that you do. I am staying tuned.

Salama Alekum, brothers in islam

I am newy ummah film viewer, just like to firstly praise and thanks Allha (swt) for enabling the muslim to be so productive with the technnonogy avaialable and hope there are many to follow this perfect innovating ways of Dawah.

2 tell u the truth I enjoyed every single blog of ummah films coz of the element of ironic truth in it and also coz it helps u remeber dat this life is to short to be "joke" on (get it,never mind)

It is nice way to see the truth side of the muslim in another angle ( as we all known but yet deny)

Anywayz like to cut it short by suggesting that u could speak about the importance of Zakah and the prohibition of taking riba from loans and other sources.

(dat many struggle to cope with)

may Allah give you rewards and strenght to continue this excellent project.

AoA to everyone here.

I have got chance to watch few of your movies and Mashallah you have been doing a great Job.

I have always loved and wished that our ummah use modern technology to spread Islam and create awareness in both muslims and non-Muslims.

I am not a media guy but I am a computer engineer and like you I have been willing and trying to use media/technology to promote Islam. My project MSN based Quran lookup is the first step towards my dream. Have a look:

AsSalaamo 'alaykum wa Ra'hmatolAllahi wa Barakato,
I think a good topic for a future "Ummah Film" would be the interviews with Muslim to Christian converts. YouTube is having a party with the amount of clips they have on that, and some constructive criticism would help improve the moral of brothers and sisters who are exposed to that. Plus it's great material for Ali's style of informing the public.
Jazak Allah Khayr for all your hard work for presenting the Muslim, and non-Muslim public with such heart-easing material.

Salam alaikum bro,

I just wanted to say that when it comes to "islamic comedy" there is a very thin line between being funny and actually mocking the deen, practises in the deen, scholars, other genuine muslims etc.

Alhumdullilah unlike a lot of other comedians out there, you have not crossed this line. In fact, I guess you might take offense to me calling you a comedian. You do an excellent job of "reminding people just in case they forget" and bringing them back to the Quran and Sunnah with a comedic twist!

Keep it up bro and good luck walking the fine line,

IMO it's up to you and other "normal" muslims to get the word out and start to change the overall perception of Islam in the west. I consume a lot of media (mainstream, blogs, aggregators, non-US news sites, etc.) and any time I see anything Muslim-related, it is indeed most often portrayed in a negative light. I see a Muslim teacher rapping the hands of an 8-year-old schoolboy, who is squirming and dancing around to avoid the blows, obviously in pain. I see an Imam "debating" a Westernized Islamic woman, calling her a heretic because she does not submit to the laws of Islam for women. I see young boys having their heads cut with razors, blood streaming down their faces, once a year on an Islamic holy day. I see crowds of crazy-eyed young Muslim men in Pakistan, shaking their fists at the camera, looking like they are almost insane with rage. I read about Muslims like the President of Iran, claiming that the Holocaust never happened. I read a story about a foreigner found travelling the road to Mecca during the holy month, and being arrested because it is against the law for infidels to be on the road to Mecca during holy festivals. I read that infidels are not allowed near the Kaaba. This seems like a very strange and isolating "rule" to me -- does the Vatican ban Muslims from visiting? What other religious places of worship (churches, temples, synagogues) place such restriction on followers of other religions? Then occasionally I hear one or two voices in the media, claiming that Islam is the religion of peace ... but no examples. No stories/videos/blogs/etc. about good deeds, humanitarian actions, inclusive attitudes, etc. which to me would be the hallmarks of a religion of peace. Are Muslims open-minded and accepting of non-Muslims in general? It does not seem so, based on what I have seen and read. Honestly, I am starting to believe that there is indeed something "wrong" and isolating with Islam. I am a white middle-aged secular American male; I consider myself much more open-minded than the majority of my fellow Americans. Over the past few years, I have become somewhat afraid of Islam, and of Muslims, and also afraid that I am capable of seeing an entire religion and group of people in such a negative light. I have never felt this way about an entire group of people. I am looking for counter-examples to help me get back to a balanced view, but I don't see any. Where are they? Please, Muslims, make an effort to promote the positive aspects of your religion. I think your observation about negative portrayals of Islam spreads far beyond the narrow beam of Western mass-media. Is this because, in part, they are telling the truth? At this level of discussion, there are no concrete facts to cite or refute; there is only opinion, and the yardstick others measure Islam by is their knowledge and understanding of other religions.

"Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
there is a field. I'll meet you there."

As Salaam u alaikum Brother Ali! I really enjoy these Muslim video blogs, and they always give me great reminders...and make me laugh. I really enjoy sharing them and supporting your blogs. In fact, I pretty much love taking lines from the films because they're so real and understandable. Jazak Allah Khair and May Allah (SWT) bless you and strengthen your iman. I was also thinking...maybe it would be a good idea to come up with Ummah Films keychains? Just a thought, but I know they're affordable, and I'd buy one...like you can make it the #1 (for one ummah) with Ummah Films wriiten on it!

Jazakallah for all the videos and smiles you have brought to our family and friends. I have an idea, not the best but of interest. YOUTH CLUBS and GAME ROOMS in masjids. Islamic Youth clubs are very good and if you want to see one, come to edmonton to the Al-Ikhwan youth club. Much dedication was put to it. Yet, in taraweeh, some masjids that have their own schools have the gyms converted to game rooms so kids and teenagers avoid the 'religious' muslims in the taraweeh. Talk about that.
well salam
keep up the good work and look forward to season 3 and 4.

As Salamu Alaikum Ali (Even though i'm athiest)

A few days back I nearly became muslim after a days, weeks and months of research on what Islam is. I decided not to become muslim because my sis and her friend didn't have a good reaction to it and from that moment on I feared what everyone elses reaction would be. The reason I decided to become muslim was so that I could feel closer with my girlfriend, (who was born a muslim and even though I feel that our relationship is strong), but also as a way of her parents accepting me so that they could approve of me.

In the end, I realised that before the thought of converting to Islam came around Hattie (my girlfriend)loved me ever since but its gonna be kinda of a shock when I tell her this when I we go back college next month.

Although I didn't become muslim in the end, I still learned some important morals and also learned some new things as well. Like at first, I thought Islam was just an middle eastern thing, but when I came to doing my research, I actually found out it wasn't. I actually found that Islam is colourblind so no race of a muslim is superior over another. Islam is actually a solution to get rid of racism, but sometimes I ask myself if muslims out there are really convinced that Islam is the way to get of racism, then why do some muslim parents out there not let their son/daughter marry someone outside their race or even do force marriages without the woman's consent. I think that this is an example of muslims who seem to love their culture more than they love Allah (even Ali mentioned this is in 'Culture vs Islam'). Do some parents realise that they'll be accountable for their actions and that they will have to answer to Allah on the Day of Judgement?

Some of you are probably wondering why my nickname is 'Metalic Islamic'. This is because it was a new name from my previous nickname 'Grim Hellspawn'. Metalic stands for my metal persoanlity and Islamic stands for my Islamic beliefs. Being a metalhead might have been one of the greatest things to happen to me but I feel that Allah presenting Islam to me was even better. Al-Humdulliah! For me, metal is just favourite kind of music and also I feel religion is something you use to help you lead your life and if I was to choose a religion it would be Islam.

I was wondering what i should do if someone attacks islam? Or acts in a rude way towards me because i am muslim? how should i respond?

For example, im 15 and i started wearing hijab last year, and one day i was walking home from school when two young men in a car honked their horn at me and made a rude hand gesture and yelled out something. I didnt know how how to respond, and i let it upset me.

could you please give me some advise?

I am so pleased to have found your website and videos! I was so pleased to find someone who speaks the truth so eloquently and honestly, yet with respect and humor! I admit I was dying laughing !!! May Allah reward all your efforts to get the message out! I was very impressed with the Hijab video (as a covered up American revert) I have seen every single description of the wrong Hijabs at the Islamic school I take my kids to! I want to approach them to explain that it is the wrong way to cover but exactly as you say, they will take offense, but I think after hearing you speak I will take that chance!
Also on your website I had wanted to email you personally to let you know on the page where you can sign up for email updates there is a clickable link to a stock trading company which I know you mentioned you were against adding any advertising links..... , but the only email I saw listed was for ideas on new episodes...so I thought I would let you know here!

Salam,

I saw Baba Ali for the first time on the Islam Channel last night.

Unfortunately, I was not a big fan of the aggressive rant which was displayed in which he tried to highlight how our parents' generation were somehow totally negligent with our upbringing.

I believe that every Muslim makes their own contribution towards good. We should not pursue our own agendas by attacking others.

With thanks,

Salaam Alaikum Ali,
I just want to tell you that you have been very informative in your videos and I appreciate all of the hard work you have put into these.I am a new convert to Islam and have noone to learn from (but my fiance that lives in Egypt, but its not easy learning from someone so far away). I have been sent your videos on my site at www.myyearbook.com . I find your video clips very humorous yet very informative. I love the humor you put into this because people seem to be able to connect to someone who is more commical that very serious. You have expossed both sides of yourself in these video clips and I am thankful for your messages you have been sending out to the Muslim and Non- Muslim communities.Especially when people have their own ideas on what Islam is and what has been put into their heads by the media as well.
You have your own way of clearing things up and making things more understandable. Good work Brother Ali .
Wa Salaam Alaikum

As-Salamu 'Alaykum:

It is imperrative upon the Brothers to dress in 'islamic' clothing i.e., Kufis, Ghutras etc...
I say this because, unless the brothers are seen to be holding on to the tradition the sisters will face increasing pressure for them to abandon clothing that is required by the religion. We do the Sunnah so they can do the Fard/Wajib.

I bear witness that because of jobs and the brothers shave beards and stop wearing kufis. It does, though, have detrimental effect on the sisters who face the pressure on them to abandon the Fard so that they can, also get jobs and interact in society.

The least the brothers can do is wear the kufi etc... when not at work.

This is a test of the courage of the brothers.

Allahumma-hdinee Seratus-Sabr. Ameen

salam brother Ali,

My friends and so many muslims i know celebrate birthdays. On birhtdays people make time to go out and do whatever they do just like the non-muslims. It really saddens me that on Eid day (Given to us by Allah to celebrate) some people do absolutely nothing whereas if it was a birthday they go out of their way to make time.
I dont know what your views on celebrating birthdays are but if you believe it's bid'ah maybe you can consider making a video about for all those who are blindly following this innovation. Jzk.
