Assalamu Alaikum Brother Ali,

I see this all the time in my community! I Really dislike having to negotiate for anything, I'm totally there with you that I want to support my community, but some of the prices are outrageous!! I think if things were more reasonably priced a lot more people would buy from there. As for wanting things for next to nothing or to pay later, it drives me crazy!! I have seen people outright 'use' other people because they were their brother or sister in Islam. I don't know anywhere that it says that we should take advantage of each other! Helping is one thing..but pure blatant taking everything you can from another Muslim..I can't believe it sometimes!

I think your videos are absolutely great. You have the guts to say what a lot of us wish we would. I hope they will bring some change. Who knows anything is possible! Allah is Big.

Take care, keep up the great work..I will look forward to the next video!

Allah hafiz

Al-hamdulilah brother for speaking the truth. This has happened to me countless times when buying overgarments. Daily sisters HAVE to cover and the prices are outrageous!!! A garment for everyday use $50, subhan-ALLAH! I am buying for myself and my two daughters. That adds up to be a lot of money! Thank you for speaking out.

Great video as usual brother Ali.

As muslims we should be fair to each other and not try to take advantage. Unfortunately, some muslims forget the teachings of islam while doing business!!!to tell you the truth, this does not happen only in the West(where people use the excuse of:"products are brought from home")but we can see it in muslim countries(where products are made locally) as well . May Allah guide us all.

I pray Allah to reward you for all this work Ali and to give you the strength to continue as long as possible doing such a brillant work.
Salam,

Bro, that was awesome. I can imagine the amount of preparation you did to do such great video. May it's effort and sweet be a heavy load in your hasanat on the day of judgement. But to play with prices is unfair and is considered injustice and Allah SWT will judge you!.

My Comment: I only thought such behaviour was in Egypt. I used not to bargain before until I found out that I always get ripped off by sellers who upscale the prices because they know people will bargain.

I do bargain now here in Egypt to avoid being ripped off by sellers. I don't stop until they say "walahy thats the final price or else I will loose money". After that, it's their swearing and they will get to be judged, so I buy.

I always thought that whoever started this bargain thing is the one to be blamed. I mean just as you said, put a fixed price tag and be straight with Allah when u do that and thats it.

It's really sad to see that bargaining is soo associated to culture to the extent that it's becoming part of being muslim.

If you've read so far, then thanx ;)

JOKE !!!

Keep up the good work bro. I am a good fan of your reminders and viewers on my site love them too. Keep focused on your intention and keep the reminders coming. This episode was good..I like the fact that you talked about your game which I bought without negotiating...actually I couldn't - "double joke!". I like the game and the message.Good Dawah!

Anyway, The quotes in the end are also great.
Just one suggestion:Consider increasing the font and slow down the transitioning so that slow readers like me can get to read the hadith and ayahs at the end.

Your reminders in the end touches on a very important hadith where Rasullulah (peace be upon him) said, more or less, that "Any group who stands from their gathering in which they did not mention Allah arise from something like the corpse of a donkey and it is a total loss upon them."

May Allah subhana wa ta alaa bless you with more creativity to wake us up from our heedless states.

Be yourself and keep reminding us...Just in case we forgot!

Assalamu alaikum, brother

Wow, I definitely didn't see this topic coming! Very well done though, and it definitely addresses a very important issue that we may overlook. I like how you cover both sides of the situation, both the ways in which the seller may be wrong, and the ways in which the buyer may be wrong.

I was wondering if you could consider doing a segment on procrastination/laziness, or if you could somehow incorporate it into a video, insha'Allah. It seems like many students in particular experience this problem (may Allah (Swt) guide them out of it). Sometimes, it becomes so serious that it leads to neglecting prayers and whatnot (e.g., staying in bed and not caring about waking up for prayers, etc.). I'm sure you can think up more examples. And oftentimes, fellow peers are also doing the same, that it becomes difficult to get out of it. As it was with the hijab video that you did (which was great by the way, masha'Allah), hearing it from a stranger (and on the internet, which makes it very accessible) may the get the message across effectively, especially with how you always add humor to your videos in such a way that not only entertains, but raises awareness of issues. If you can consider it, that would be great, but if you are unable to do it, that is okay too. :)

Jazak'Allah khair for the wonderful videos, and may Allah (Swt) reward you for your efforts.

Regarding Anisah El Khairi's comment above, I think the topic of how born Muslims treat converts--or incorporating it into a video somehow--would be a wonderful idea. That also reminds me of how converts are sometimes looked down upon just because they are converts, especially if they are of a different cultural background. For instance, parents often place way too much emphasis on marrying within their own tribe (sorry, I couldn't put it in a better way, lol). And when there are interracial couples, people stare and think negatively, which is saddening because interracial marriage is encouraged in Islam and is actually a good deed for the Ummah. Or, come to think of it, perhaps you could do a segment on marriage, which would reach out to both Muslim-born and convert brothers and sisters, with discussions of issues such as pickiness/selectivity of potential brides/grooms, how people over-delay marriage because they "must" get their master's degree, etc. I think it would make for a great video.

Also, I understand that you did a video on culture vs. Islam masha'Allah--maybe you could expand on it to make it directed at the children/youth this time, and how they often end up doing things out of peer pressure (e.g., watching films that have nudity, but claiming that it's okay because they "look away," using profanity, etc... I'm sure there's a whole lot more). I think it's an issue that affects a lot of our youth, who tend to unfortunately undermine the bad effects of it.

Insha'Allah you can consider these ideas insha'Allah. Jazak'Allah khair, keep up the great work!

Salaams Brother,

I have just seen a video on you tube referring to hijab, as a sister who tries to follow her deen (Inshallah).I felt upset at your attempt to portray this very important message. Too often we have people ridicule sisters and thier 'hijab'. As a sister who has worked in the media trying to portray the 'right' image and give out the same message as yourself. I have learnt their are better ways to do it then criticising or ridiculing the 'hijabi'. A sister watching that video could feel leaving disheartened and even bitter.lets not forget the nature of a woman, and the words of our beloved, to soften the hearts we bring to the deen. It would be a shame if someone left unwilling to watch a ummah -film again, as they are a credit to our community. m.a,May you continue to give a peaceful message with sincerity and wisdom ameen.

Mashallah..

this is soooo true. I work at a variety store, and el7amdolillah i wear the hijab, so people easily recognize that i'm muslim, which also makes them think that for some reason, they now own the store and can do whatever they want inside. Like let their kids run loose and be short 2 buck, EVERYTIME. It kinds gets on my nerves sometimes..

Just thought i'd throw that out there..:)

i liked your video and i feel the pain of people like hte man you described that did all the work for a measly 100 dollars!!! i have done work and only got a few dollars for it when it was actually 75 dollars worth of work they paid one payment and then ran with the clothing they "loved" then pulled the its rhamadan card!!

If I where a film critic I would give this 4 stars just as all the other short films deserve. This is so true why is it that I have to feed my family with food from a nonmuslim amrket instead of buying from my own people BECAUSE its tooo high thats why. Oh and dont get me started on the cheap quality overgarments they sell for prices you would not believe I tought women was suppose to want to cover they really make it hard....

Assalam u alaikom!!!

May Allah Bless you and your family (ameen).

I really feel that we as muslims have unfortunately reduced our "deen" to mere rituals. There were many generations b/f us who were unfair in their business dealings and Allah destroyed them!!!

The stories that are narrated in the Quran to us are not told for entertainment, they are rich in lessons, but Allah has said that only those who take the time to ponder will benefit from His Book.

Thank you for the reminders.

Jazakallah Khair,

U'r Sister in Islam

Assalamu-alaikum. Good relevant topic. Just like any thing else, we do not deal justly to any thing close to us. From our family to our institutions.
You are best if you are best with your family. You should teat your brother the way you like to be treated. This is all part of lost Islamic creed. You can tell they way we park at the mosque vs. supper market. My kid plays a game called settelrs of ketan and they must have spent in access of $150, on main game and its expansion pack.
Some of us never bargain. I will buy the game for $25.00.
Thank-you and Allaha increase your position in Jannah.

Your brotger in islam

love the new episode. :)

There's kind of a hissing sound throughout the video though.

You should do an episode on muslims shouting and arguing about rules of fiqh in the Masjid. Or people making things haram when they're not.

keep up the good work, brother,

i always watch your videos the day they come out. mashallah, they are very good and funny, too. i have an idea for a new vlog - racism within the muslim community. it's not that widespread, but it is present... like, some people think that other muslims of other races are not as good as they are or just not as good for them to associate with.

Ali great work. I would like to recommend a topic, Groups. How many people follow different groups and because of this our ummah continues to divide. I think you can add a funny twist to this topic, one that will leave your audience reflecting on their current situation. Turning away from everything that causes this division. Hadith: The Jews and Christians divided into 71 and 72 groups and my ummah will divide into 73, all to hell except for those on the path of my companions and I.

Jazakallahkyran bro, and another reminder is that offering 2 prices is very close to interest. And we know in Islam there are things that are clearly haraam or halal and then there are gray areas, and the one who takes part in the unclear gray areas is like a shepherd that allows his cattle to graze in a pasture next to someone else's pasture, you will eventually fall into the haraam, as the cattle will eventually eat from the other pasture, and this is authentic.

I think mahdi has a good point about making a video about concerning the splitting of the Ummah, but please obtain knowledge from the scholars prior to doing it:
Abud-Dardaa (radyAllaahu ‘anhu) reported: “I heard the Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) say: ‘Whoever treads a path due to which he seeks knowledge, Allaah will make him tread one of the paths towards Paradise. And the angels lower their wings out of contentment for the seeker of knowledge. And verily all those in the heavens and in the earth, even the fish in the depths of the sea ask forgiveness for the scholar. And verily, the virtue of the scholar over the worshipper is like the virtue of the moon on the night of Al-Badr over all of the stars. Indeed, the scholars are the inheritors of the prophets, for the prophets do not leave behind a dinar or a dirham for inheritance, but rather, they leave behind knowledge. So whoever takes hold of it, has acquired a large share (i.e. of inheritance).

Reported by Abu Dawood, At-Tirmidhee and Ibn Hibbaan, and this is the wording found in his collection, in abridged form. Al-Bukhaaree mentioned in his Saheeh Collection in his Book of Knowledge, Chapter: Knowledge precedes Speech and Action, the part from it: “The scholars are the inheritors of the Prophets.”

The Prophet said (which means), "From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks and the use of musical instruments, as lawful. And there will be some people who will stay near the side of a mountain and in the evening their shepherd will come to them with their sheep and ask them for something, but they will say to him, 'Return to us tomorrow.' Allaah will destroy them during the night and will let the mountain fall on them, and He will transform the rest of them into monkeys and pigs and they will remain so till the Day of Resurrection." [Al-Bukhari Volume 7, Book 69, Number 494v].

Alhamdulilla, when admonished the brother responded by removing the music from his video. Alhamdulilla. Maybe if someone brought him authentic proof about growing the beard,he would do this as well. So dont criticize someone for doing haraam when they may not even know it, and you have not shown him proof that it is haraam. The way of the Salaf as Salah ( the righteous predecessors or the early Muslims such as the sahaba , the tabyeen, etc )was that if they stated something was or was not a part of the sunnah, they always brought daleel (proof)
Jazakallah-Kyran again Ali
May Allah guide us all

Dear brother,I want to appreciate you for recording an important issue like that.I think this is a universal problem. I'm living in a Muslim country(99% of the population muslim )But even though ı can't see a lot of justice in prices. If ı were live in a non-muslim country maybe ı can accept this situation more easily but in this case ıt comes me very nonsense...I'm praying for all of us.May Allah be with you always thanks again....

AsalaamWalaikum. I pretty much aagree with on everything, present and pas videos, EXCEPT one small thing.

The Halal meat being more expensive. Brother, there is a simple explanation for halal meat being more expensive. That is demand..if demand for a product is high, manufatureres find competetive ways to mass process items and thereby reducing overall cost of the product.

Example: Costco, I can buy akmost anything a whole lot cheaper than safeway, kroegers, food lion or even walmart. Why, because I buy in bulk, since costco processes and deals with whole sale, large orders , they can give a very low price.

However, Halal meat is a special commodity, there isnt as much demand for it as compared to non-zabiha meat. So since non zabiha meat is mass processed, supermarkets get whole sale price for it, but muslim grocery stores have to pay higher prices. I hope, I have clarified my point to you. And just FYI, I dont own or work at a muslim grocery store.

Other than that, I totally agree with Islamic books being way to expensive, and lecture audio cds totally ripping us off. Come on 25 dollars for a 1 hour lecture...JOKE!!

May Allah(swt)reward your efforts immensely and keep your intentions pure, bi'ithnillah.
Brother, I think this was a very appropriate and important topic you touched upon and I appreciated it very much. Although, if I may critique it a bit, it was not as good as your previous videos and I'm saying that as a viewer of all your videos. What I mean is, it lacked humour. What made your videos unique and interesting, was your ability to instill genuine, halal humour which left the viewer with a laugh as well as a message.
The message was there alright but your attempt at humour didn't quite make it in this video. Nonetheless, it was a good video, but not your best.
Please forgive me for anything that I said which may have caused any pain. I am just trying to give some naseeha.
Keep up the good work brother.

The advice I would give is don't join them...try to set yourself as a good example....you WILL make a difference...you WILL see the change in people...(but very gradually....remember old habits...dying and all that)

I really can’t buy this person at all. He’s an Iranian who’s not suffered the atrocity those Iranian young boys and girls have suffered and are suffering, having lived his life in America!
That is why he can praise Islam because he has no idea how it feels living under Islamic subjugation as a young person!
If he had had lived his life in Iran, I swear to God or Allah if you prefer as someone who’s been brain-washed by Arabic Culture and not by Real Islam because Arabs are a racist and arrogant nation and their arrogance has been blamed by God even in Koran. That’s why they insist to impose their language and culture to the whole world in the name of Islam whereas according to the real Islamic ideology, Islam is a global religion therefore, you don’t have to become an Arab in order to become a Muslim. You can keep your cultural appearance, name etc. and still be a Muslim but NO… They insist you have to grow a beard right after conversion, choose an “Arabic” name NOT “Islamic Name” because there is no such thing as Islamic Name being Islam a global religion and learn Arabic because you wouldn’t be a Muslim if you don’t pray to God or the Arabic God, Allah, if you don’t speak to him in Arabic! Apparently, God is an Arab and would not understand any language other than Arabic!
This person on the other hand has suffered some frustration in America which is not very hard to see what his frustrations has been! How can I see that?! It’s easy! He’s playing cool, funny, open-minded, even trying to be somewhat sexy! Where has he learned all these things?! To his admission, he’s been hanging out with white Americans and has been drinking, clubbing, chasing girls etc. He obviously has not been received well to his liking and has been disappointed and that’s why he’s become a Islam Lover. He’s fighting back! I think this guy’s so called activities are based on sheer selfish motive; therefore I cannot buy it or hoopla for it!

I simply want to say that where I live, in Canada, the Halal meat sold in a Halal grocery store is actually less expensive than the non-Muslim local grocery store's meat. I think it is great! Alhumdolillah!

Keep up the great videos. Being a convert Muslim myself, you have reached some of my thoughts on several ways.

Jazaka Allah Khair
