Videoblog #2: Tips on what to watch out for when finding your spouse online

Bismillah ar-Rahmaan ar-Raheem,

After lots of positive feedback on the first video blog experiment, we made another one. We filmed it in 15 minutes. Talked about ideas for the "tips" while eating pizza and edited it all the same night. A lot of it is just improv. Anyways, let's us know what you think InshAllah

Really good pace!

Could use some visual or background spunk. Props or on-site location filming might not hurt.

Had a bit of an echo.

Good job, Bro!

hahaha awesome once again.. and yeah i dont personally mind the rough edges, but if you want to polish it up a bit, then do something about the acoustics. but otherwise the editing and dialogue are great.. good stuff, keep it tup :o)

hey salaams,
great content. the dude being filmed is good except it looks throughout the whole thing as if he's half grinning which isnt a big deal but if he had a more serious expression, it'd be funnier.

I have to admit most of it was pretty funny. However, I wonder why a sister that has kid(s) is an "uh oh". There could be a number of reasons why an unmarried sister has kids. She could be widowed, divorced (for the sake of AllaH), etc..It's a wonder why it's so hard for sincere sisters in this category to get married if we think this is an "uh oh" or that it's funny. Our beloved Prophet (saw) would not condone these types of feelings let alone joke about it. It's really sad that this scenario was included in the "red flag" tips. For those that are married and have kids, just think about how it would be for your wives (and daughters) if circumstances left them in that category. This is not a personal attack in any way because Masha'allah I know your personality and that you are sincere. Just giving the requested feedback. You stated that it was done in 15 minutes which may be why it wasn't completely thought out. There are a lot of people frequenting this site so insha'llah we have to be extra careful about what is communicated, implied, etc..

At June 16, 2006 12:28 PM, Blogger Baba Ali said...

the idea behind the "uh oh" for the kids was that in the scene, it assumes that person has been taking with the sister and she never mentioned it (not meant as a negative). Anyways, it was meant to setup the punchline "Your kids having kids?", which the person discovers that the sister he is speaking to is much older than he thought. Otherwise it was not meant as an attack on marrying sisters with children. I just wanted to clear that up for you and everyone else.

Once again, it was done very quickly and it was filmed is about 15 minutes. InshAllah I will try to be more careful and clear. jazkaAllah kair for the reminder.

Tip # 100: you cannot talk to girls on the phone to get married! there is something called parents for the girl you want to marry!... Enter the house from its doors!... talking on the phone or chatting on the internet for the "possibility" of marriage is entering houses through windows, i.e. like thieves! Wallah alaam.

I think this is a very bright way to teach the younger generation in particular about our beautiful religion, since most of us fall asleep or zone out when our moms make us listen to sermons! i loved all the videos and recommended them to all my friends! thank you so much! keep up the awesome work! and errr btw...are you married? As'Sallamu'alaikum,
Brothers........I watch these films and I love them I think they are just so awsome...Alhumdulillah. I have never really had a "problem" with any of your films from before or the resent ones.......the only thing that I kinda disagreed with was how you made it sound as if marrying a sister that already has kids is a problem. I personaly thought is was kinda discriminative against sisters when on the phone she said she has kdis and you said something like "uh oh". Other than that love your movies and messages that are in your movies. sallam alaikum

All of your vids are really great, but I have to say somthing..Do you believe that all Muslim sisters who have kids are old?? Some sisters are in their 20's... You'll find them working, going to school and raising the Ummah's future Muslims..Can a brother do all of that by himself?? These women need the Ummah to recognize them not FLAG them..

Salam alaycom wa rahmatullah,
Jazakom Allah khayran for your efforts, the videos are really funny .But,I would like to comment on the topic(green card issue) as I was myself a member of a muslim matrimonial website!I think those spaces are not secure for sincere muslim girls & it s the sister who should be careful there. As for the brothers who are afraid of getting married to girls who just wanna have a "green card" or an western passport, they can simply not show interest in girls that are from other countries,so simple!Anyway,I think the hope of improving one's conditions of life by moving to other country & making a family there, honestly,I don t see it "opportunistic" as our Rizq is in Allah' s hands(alhamdolillah) not in anybody s else,& it s legitime as the 2 persons can provide good things to each other. When the sister aspires to improve her material & personnal life by getting married to a brother in the west,it is "opportunistic" &(haram),& when the brother looks for a pious intelligent beautiful sister to marry, why don t you think it is also opportunistic as he is going to benefit from her characters also?SubhanaAllah! My statements may surprise many, but I don t agree with those who marry any1 who have green card whatever his personality & characters are,I am simply saying:if you are afraid of an opportunistic girl to exploit you there, then don t talk to her from the begining,& if you do,then you should know about smthing in our deen called"tawakkol" & "istikharah",& know that Allah "swt" has assured the "rizq" of everybody previously, that she will get it with you or without you!

Salaam Brother Ali,

I have watched quite a few of your videos and love them. I just want to reiterate a point that a few people have made. I am a 30 year old sister with a daughter. Does that make me an Uh Oh? I don't think you meant to to come accross like that but I just wanted to let you know that their are a lot of pious sisters out there who have children due to previous marriages. They are looking for good muslim men (divorcees and men with children are not an issue for them) but they get turned down just because they have a child. Lets look at the example of our Prophet (pbuh). It would be nice if you could do a piece on this issue and also advice for sisters who are looking. This clip only has advice for brothers.

Keep up the good work!

Asalaamu alaikum my brother Ali, ramadhan mubarak.

these vidz are really good,
divorce is only seen as a bad thing these days. in the time of beloved prophet saws, divorce was not bad, with so many more women then men, ore women got the chance to be married then instead of living a single lonely life. as marriage is half your imaan, get the reward for marrying another sister, divorced or not, who needs her imaan too. im guna leave sum more messages later as i watch more vids
these are proper funny man. respect...

Assalamalaikum,

Your movies are amazing especially since they reach out to an audience which would otherwise miss out on a lot of this knowledge you share. I am a fan. If I may suggest something: Please make a video on this topic:
'Husbands in Islam' and target the men who have exploited religion to use excerpts from here and their to make demands on their 'muslim' wives but have never even thought about keeping up their end of the bargain as a muslim husband. Perhaps they don't even know the rights Allah grnats their wives over them..please enlighten them and empower your muslim sisters. Jazakallah khair!
P.S.: My beloved 11 yr old son's name is Ali, hope he picks up some of your traits. Keep up the good work!

assalamao-alaikum,

I don't know if anyone caught this, but for sure didn't seem to bother most of the "commentees," i.e., we shouldn't be conversing to the non-mahram "just to get to know each other" anyways.

The proper way for a brother, is to find out who the sister's wali is--and talk the wali. Ofcourse, then if he wants to speak to the sister, he may do so only in the presense of her Wali/or her mahrams.

Haven't you heard the hadith that talks about non-mahram man and woman being alone, then surely their third is shaytaan.

May Allah guide us all.

You are an Iranian, living in America, publicizing Islam, yet using American gestures as to trying to sound cool, funny, sexy, open-minded etc.
Dude! What Are You?!
Who Are You?!
Not being received by white girls in America has really taken you far, hasn't it?!
Or maybe I'm wrong?!
Are you being fueled up with KSA Money?!

Phony, Silly, Pretentious, Pathetic and Nonsense... Seriously, whoever finds this materials funny has no sense of humor!

What really exasperates me is the fact that, this person is defending Islam because even though he's an Iranian ethnicity, he has not suffered the atrocity that the young people his age have suffered in Iran in the name of Islam because, he's lived his youth in United States and has taken the freedom for granted.
Of course because of his personal frustration which is not being received by the Americans to that extend that he'd expected, he's now become an Islam lover, something most Society Orphans would resort to!
I think this guy has tried to mingle with the white Americans especially white girls and since they did not receive him very well for obvious reasons, his pride has been belittled and that's why he's resorted to all this pathetic nonsense!

I really can’t buy this person at all. He’s an Iranian who’s not suffered the atrocity those Iranian young boys and girls have suffered and are suffering, having lived his life in America!
That is why he can praise Islam because he has no idea how it feels living under Islamic subjugation as a young person!
If he had had lived his life in Iran, I swear to God or Allah if you prefer as someone who’s been brain-washed by Arabic Culture and not by Real Islam because Arabs are a racist and arrogant nation and their arrogance has been blamed by God even in Koran. That’s why they insist to impose their language and culture to the whole world in the name of Islam whereas according to the real Islamic ideology, Islam is a global religion therefore, you don’t have to become an Arab in order to become a Muslim. You can keep your cultural appearance, name etc. and still be a Muslim but NO… They insist you have to grow a beard right after conversion, choose an “Arabic” name NOT “Islamic Name” because there is no such thing as Islamic Name being Islam a global religion and learn Arabic because you wouldn’t be a Muslim if you don’t pray to God or the Arabic God, Allah, if you don’t speak to him in Arabic! Apparently, God is an Arab and would not understand any language other than Arabic!
This person on the other hand has suffered some frustration in America which is not very hard to see what his frustrations has been! How can I see that?! It’s easy! He’s playing cool, funny, open-minded, even trying to be somewhat sexy! Where has he learned all these things?! To his admission, he’s been hanging out with white Americans and has been drinking, clubbing, chasing girls etc. He obviously has not been received well to his liking and has been disappointed and that’s why he’s become a Islam Lover. He’s fighting back! I think this guy’s so called activities are based on sheer selfish motive; therefore I cannot buy it or hoopla for it!

The lowest level in ukhuwwah is husnuzon and the highest level would be to put others b4 u.

to those who has been or want to criticize ali by saying he's resorting to islamic becoz of 'rejections by the whites".
think b4 u do so.

i'm not trying to defend him or anything but u're actually saying u're 'much better and superior' to him (that's not what islam teaches, right?)

who are you to make judgement of others? are you trying to play god here??? think 'bout it!!!

*don't c at who's talking,
but look at what he's talking about......

may Allah forgive us... ameen.

Soooooooo funny, I felt like a lunatic laughing out loud all alone! It was awesome! By the way, is it okay for Muslims to decide to marry on the cell phone or through the internet. I thought you had to go to her parents first and then go through every boring detail and then get married...

Hello i recommented Viagra Online . I was skeptical at first, the price seemed too good and the shipping process too convoluted. But I sucked it up and took the plunge, ordered 90 of the lil blue guys and sat back to wait for packages that might never come. Happily I was SO wrong! 9 days after my order was placed I received my first batch of 30+4, and just today (another week later) I received the remaining 60. The quality of the product is outstanding. If you're sitting there, wondering whether or not you should go ahead and make a purchase here, quit wondering! The best prices, excellent service, and a top-notch product are all present here. Go for it!

Assalamu alaikum Ali!

Thank you for all of the entertaining/educational videos...they really speak to the youth on many levels mashallah. May allah bless you.
Please Ali make a video on the woman's perspective of finding someone to marry, what they should look for and how to go about finding someone in a halal way because there are many sisters who fall in to traps when it comes to marriage and then they end up in divorces and all sorts of problems.
You visited Australia for the 'just for laughs' show in the city I'm from, Brisbane, and I really enjoyed your show mashallah. I think that you can really influence young people in to doing things in a much more islamic way and inshallah this will strengthen our ummah.
I also wanted to say that I'm 23 with a 3 year old son from a previous marriage and I'm finding it really difficult to find a pious husband in my community since most men here are not interested in women with children...I hope that one day you can address the importance of men in marrying women with children as they have it really hard... many of these women are pious and very experienced in life, subhanallah. Anyway I can't wait to see more videos inshallah, take care.
Assalamu alaikum wr wb
Hawa

MashaAllah. May Allah (SWT) guide you closer to Him, source of true happiness and peace.
Born in Iran in a non-religious family, I reverted to Islam a few years ago. I can appreciate the lack of understanding among non-religious Iranians who mix up religion with culture.
We really enjoy your reminders. Please keep it up.

What is disturbing is that this fool calls the label 'Ummah Films'. I hope the world realises that not all muslims are idiots, using a religious label for an attempt at an identity.
