Confused Persian Puppets

Bismillah ar-Rahmaan ar-Raheem,

I had an idea of putting together a Sesame Street type of show but instead of having it in English, it would be in Farsi. Once again, this is something I had never done before (except in my head) but it sounded like fun.

Ok, this entire thing is totally improv. Yes, there was no script. Actually, I didn't even watch the whole thing...I just pressed play and made up the dialogue as the movie played. I then added background noise and sound effects since I had zero background audio to start with. And of course, I made up the voices for the characters...hahaha. For the tall green puppet, I altered my bullwinkle voice. For the purple voice, I tried to make up a older/grouchy voice. Give me a break, I'm not a voice person..haha!

Once again, this is 100% improv. This isn't a translation of any sort. Actually, I have ZERO idea what the original puppets were saying or talking about. I had no idea even what subject they were talking about. I guess that allowed me to be more open on the creative end. Its funny, I was just making up dialogue...not knowing what's coming up in the next scene. Note: Never hire me as a translator....haha

Not too consistent but it makes me laugh! (especially the end).

Here is the clip (its about 2 minutes long so it will take a little bit to load)

You will need quicktime to view this clip. You can also watch it in the Windows Media Player by clicking here or check it out in the player below.

i just made up the whole thing and its bunch a lot of nonsense. Its kinda like recording your voice when you first get a taperecorder for fun. You don't think people are going to hear it so you just say anything. It was an experiment to see if I can remove actual audio and make up believable audio (voice, background music, birds chirping) and it worked. The content was nonsense and was more of a joke than something that would be actually produced.

The idea is that if this technique can be done, then you can translate "puppet shows" for children that you want to make bilingual. This way you can teach them your home language by taking the video and putting your own audio to it.

Since I had no script and I had no idea what they were going to do next, I just played the video and reocorded what I thought they were talking about and that is why its just a bunch of nonsense. Imagine taking a foreign film (that you don't understand) removing the audio and then just putting words in their mouth. You would have no idea what they were doing, how they were going to move next, which camera angle would be shown, etc...etc...and then you would make up dialogue between the people. Its crazy!! (but its fun...I still laugh when the purple puppet takes out the hot dogs and then the green puppet say "hot dogs?"...yeah the show made no sense to me so i guess that why the dialogue has such a lack of depth..haha..but its funny!)

Assalam-o-Alaykum (w.r.w.b)

Keep up the good work, this video migh seem only funny to many but i tell you. If you keep on working on this you might have the next big Muslim show for youngsters. This was definately suite for childrens aged from 3 to 7 or 8 and then the other video's you have on youtube are perfect for all the other ages. Brothers/sisters keep working hard on this and i hope one day you guys would have a very successful show in U.S and then perhaps all around the Ummah.

Just my opinion.

Bismi Ellah

I am not sure if others said it or not, but I just have to: It's 3lam SEMSEM! Min Masr!

The "Sesame Street" is exactly that; the very, very famous Alam Semsem from Egypt. I know so thanks to my five-year old watching them about 10 times per day.....lol. The green muppet is dressed in traditional Upper Egyptian garb, and just like the other Egyptian cartoons (Bakar is one of them), this muppet show is all about feeling proud about the rural Egyptian lifestyle.

...and those rural Egyptian people were the ones who came to my street every morning after fajr, yelling out their goods, from "fooooul", "kheyyyyyaaaar!!", "hellllllllwah tiiiieeeen!!!" to "batiiiiiieeeeekh!!!"

I am all for the Farsi ya akhee. Just state your source :)

WHY ARE YOU USING MUSIC!?!!

music is haraam to listen to and make. on every page it says ummahfilms is an islamic *halal* entertainment company...using it as backround in your clips is not a halal thing brother. please take this as advice, and not criticism!
