UPDATE: Watch out for the Bus!!! (I fixed it - no more "floating bus")

Bismillah ar-Rahmaan ar-Raheem,

Thanks for the feedback on the Bus Clip. I want back to AE and tried to do it better. The first time it took me hours to put the clip together. This time it took about 20 minutes right before I had to goto work. This is why its so important to practice the tough stuff (especially if you know you are going to do something like it in your film) before.

Anyways, I couldn't change the original footage so it still looks like a jump but the bus looks much better now (no more "floating bus"). Also, I added a sound effect to give the clip more of an impact.

Watch out for the bus!

You will need quicktime to view this clip. You can also watch it in the Windows Media Player by clicking here or check it out in the player below.

(I'll explain how this clip was done in the comment section)

I was pretty impressed at what I saw, even with the lack of resources and other things that can enhance the picture.

With little, one must work harder to be creative. I think the little we have can be a blessing in disguise: it will make us more creative which in turn make us more better in our trade.

its good masha' allah... but the preparation, before the bus comes, shows... what i mean is you start jumping sideways before the bus comes, so it looks a little bit... well, you know - the fakeness shows.

I recorded the clip by myself yesterday and there was live traffic coming from both sides. Also, it was the end of the day so because the sun was moving, I had to film something (anything) asap. After I imported everything upstairs, I realized how I could have made it better but it was too late (getting dark). Anyways, its a learning process so I'm learning InshAllah.

To answer the questions on how I did it: I imported the clip with the bus and used a mask so I could isolate the bus by itself. Then I placed that edited clip into Final Cut Pro over my original layer with me talking. I used the natural sounds from both clips so no sound was added.

The problem was that the sun was moving quick (since it was close to sunset) so the two clips had different shadows so I took the bus shadows out...thats why the bus looks like its floating (chessy huh?). When it clip is played is full speed, then its ok. But since most people like to go back and "slow-mo" the thing to death, then obviously you can see the faults (especially from a rookie effect person like myself..yes this is my first effect)

But doing this kind of thing helps with the learning process because the next time I do it, I can film it differently so it looks more real. For example, I would film during the middle of the day and bypass all the shadows issues. Also, I could have a cheap matress right outside the frame to fall into (instead of jumping out of the frame which looks fake). Finally, I would get some help (having someone looking at upcoming traffic) will allow me to not look at the upcoming traffic so the clip is even more unexpected. etc..etc...you get the idea.

niceeee...I think given it the first time doing it it came out OK... u did not put in the sound effect when the bus hits you…like a dush..dang…guff…or BAM sound…
I think this was like the commercial which u got tackle/sacked by the bus...so the bus is not floating but jumping to tackle you...you know like the ESPN commercial where the guy tackles people...may be you should try that...and make uuuuhhhh tackling sound...
Peace out home BOYZZZZzzz

Thanks for the feedback. I added the sound effect, got rid of the "floating bus" and now the clip looks much more realistic. After Effects is a great program and this is only one of the many things you can do with it. The more you play with it, the faster you get. For example, when I put the clip together the other day (had to figure out how to do it), it took me a few hours. This morning, I did it in about 20 minutes.
