NEW Season 2 Intro (audio options) - Your vote counts

Bismillah ar-Rahmaan ar-Raheem,

The intro was made by Iman Studios and was sent to us. The only thing that I did to it was take out the audio and replace it with three different types of Adhan. I have put together four possible intro options (each with a different audio) so please comment on which one you like most.

Your vote will decide on which intro will appear at the beginning of the future Reminder videos InshAllah.

CAN'T SEE IT? Try YOUTUBE or GOOGLE VIDEO

**Note: We will not be able to modifications of the intro, since it was given to us. So when you are voting, please do so with the understanding that we will take the clip "as is". Also, I'm not here to promote nor defend Music. The purpose of this post is not to start a "music" debate. That can be done later if a future video ever covers it. I'm just want to put that out before the comment section ends up in a lon debate over music.

asalam alaykum i would like 2 make an important comment about the note you made about music , i feel you need 2 realise the fact that people like you and know you , is enough for you 2 have 2 be careful wether you are doing anything haram , if you do something haram and people follow you on that not only will they get a sin for it so will you , especillay the young and impressionable the type of mentality they have well if 'baba ali did it ' i will 2 . so please brother you have 2 be careful with videos you show and you must check wether its halal at the end of the day its your judgment .i hope you have not taken any offence to this and i hope you think about pls dnt get sucked into fame .
may allah make ur intentions sincere ameen

At November 08, 2006 9:53 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Aslm wbr,

I would prefer option 1 as the music, unlike the others( with the athan), would appeal more to the non-muslims counterpart. Apparently my mum, a non-muslim, was astonished and felt weird when she heard the athan playing. To me, introduction and esp intro music is impt in getting the audience(esp non-muslim)to be more curious on knowing the content, and not start getting 'uneasy'and 'uncomfortable'from the start.

Hope this helps=)

At November 08, 2006 1:19 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Asalaam Ahlykoem to all

I liked option 1, because I think the 'athan' should be used when you are calling the people up for prayer.

After hearing option 1 ,you could say 'Bismillah Irahman Irahim' and then show the video.

And I alsow share the same opinion like Yasmine "introduction and esp intro music is impt in getting the audience(esp non-muslim)to be more curious on knowing the content, and not start getting 'uneasy'and 'uncomfortable'from the start."

Asalaam ahlykoem,

P.S. Keep up the awesome work, May Allah reward you tenfold. Ameen.

The 1st one

At November 08, 2006 7:21 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I thought option 2 is better because the adhan is a 'call for prayer' and has 'words'. Most intros just have a background tune because. Having words just distracts ppl or looks out of tune.

On the other hand, I thought option 2 was too slow for the graphics. Cant we have something a little more up-beat? Even adding a bit of drum/duff beats would give it a lively/positive/passionate tone which will also go with the content of the videos.

At November 08, 2006 8:24 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Most definately OPTION 1,, we don't want to overwhelm non- Muslim viewers. Besides, the other options overpower the graphics.

At November 09, 2006 1:13 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Thanks for giving the non-music options.

If ppl don't like azan, how about using verse [3:104], it has the word "Ummah" and fits your theme of "Reminder" (about 19 sec.)

At November 09, 2006 1:43 AM, Blogger zenithyoda said...

I like #1, mostly cause 2-4 are from a salat program I use. Plus, i think you want to keep the intro inviting to all.

At November 09, 2006 2:03 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

To be honest, neither one. Can't you find something else? Preferably, not Qur'an or Adhan, but rather, something that suits both the dawah and comedic elements of your videos.

salaam 'alaykum,

I don't want to get into a debate about music, but I would say stay away from option 1 because of the musical instruments. I like option 3... it almost seemed liked it was "on beat" with the graphic effects.

Number 3 sounds beautiful masha allah...feels like you're in Makkah! Definitely don't do no. 1 coz its meant to be a dawah programme and putting music in doesn't set an example. Playin the Adhaan at the beginning is a form of dawah in itself!

[if i am wrong with this fact some one plz correct me, jazzakallah]

salaamualaikum, i think option 1..i agree wit one of the other comments, and from personal experience, yes, altho the adhaan is a beautiful thing within itself..it also wil not b appealing to non-muslims,as to some, it can seem pretty scary sounding, also, for a wider audience, and to attract the attention of the younger muslims...i think option 1! :)

At November 09, 2006 5:00 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Assalamu alaikum Brothers....we think you should go with Option 3. Or any option other than 1, because of the music, which is haram. I know this is a debatable topic for some! Hey, how about you make a video blog about music in Islam??!

Option 1 or 3, I really like the first option, it sounds a bit Turkish hahaha

At November 09, 2006 5:16 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I liked the 1st one but the whole thing about music can be a bit "dodgy"...
so the next best one was no.2..
"always start in the name of ALLAH" they say..
so i feel although they rest all sounded the "same" no.2 was the best.

Bismilla

Assalaam alaikum,

I am sure few will say this but three is the most halal choice the adhan is to be recited and not sang like a song. Brothers for the sake of Allah focus on halal and harram.

Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {O you who believe! Fear Allâh (by doing all that He has ordered and by abstaining from all that He has forbidden) as He should be feared. [Obey Him, be thankful to Him, and remember Him always], and die not except in a state of Islâm (as Muslims) with complete submission to Allâh.} [Quran 3: 102].

Salamun Alaikum,

I think option 3 or 4 are the best...they sorta fit in..or something better might be

51: 55. And remind (by preaching the Qur'ân, O Muhammad ) for verily, reminding profits the believers.

Adding a recitation of that verse by Saad Al Ghamdi or Shaykh Shuraim..since the theme is to remind -> "Reminding you just in case you forgot"..

My 2 cents.

Walaikum Assalam

At November 09, 2006 7:22 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think option 1 goes best with the way the words come up, ie the rythm of it? Obviously it is best to start with Allah's name but watching it, Option 1 seems more natural rather than just playing a sound over the words?

At November 09, 2006 7:24 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

asalaamu alaykum
I would say none of the options because option 1 is music which we all know is haram, and the others are adhan and adhan is not an intro tune, and if the vidoes are watched by none-muslim which I have seen a none-muslim relative of mine watching and find it to be interesting then the adhan may put them off. So may be find an interesting nasheed, as there are so many nasheeds available today, mashallah, that would suit as an intro tune and Allah knows best

wasalaamu alaykum

option 2

At November 09, 2006 7:50 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Adhan is one of the most amazing sounds in the world, but I still think for the combination of the visual and audio, option 1 is best.

I don't know, the action in the video is fast and moving and the adhan is slow. The adhan is usually good with a fade-in from black or white sequence, and a relatively progression of the video, to equal the flow of sound of the adhan. For this though, I suggest #1.

At November 09, 2006 7:53 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

i think dat the first 1 is da best!!

At November 09, 2006 7:53 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Oh and when others say start with the name of Allah swt, I agree, but I don't think in the form of adhan. Maybe just have the screen be black, and put on a bismillahirrahmaanirrahim audio, and then start with the intro. Just a suggestion.

Option 1 and 2

At November 09, 2006 8:07 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Asalaamu Alaikum Brother Ali,
Please, please, please do NOT use number 1. Despite reaching out to a large non-Muslim base (as many pointed out as to why you should use #1), you are still Muslim, mash'Allah, and should not change ANYTHING to attract viewers. It is better to please Allah than the kufar. Whether music is harram or not, there is enough doubt where I do feel it is best you do NOT use it.
Therefore, I think #3 was BEAUTIFUL! SubhanAllah....but option #4 was a close second for me....

Assalamu Alaikum dear brother Ali...I've seen other people's votes, and though many think you should start with #1, I disagree. Although not all scholars agree that music is haram, it seems incompatible with the message you are sending through these videos. Alhamdulillah, they've been successful and i hope they contiue to be a success. I was sort of surprised at the new intro in the first video of season 2 because, although people would call it a "professional intro," I think keeping it all Islamic would be better for the theme. Plus, what better intro can you have than the athan of the haram? that's my opinion, ultimately, it's ur decision. sorry for writing so much:/

ok, I have a suggestion. I don't know if it'll always be possible, but maybe you can find an aya from the Quran that matches whatever topic you'll be discussing and play it in the beginning. Just an idea!

As-salamu alaikom,

I recommend #4. this is yet another great opportunity to introduce an integral part of our daily lives, esp to non-Muslims, where most of us miss if we live in the West. The adhan also creates sonic branding for the whole project. And last this is the best option i feel fits brother Ali's proceeding upbeat tone. #1 comes quite as a contrast.

Jazakom Allah khair

It's definitely a close call between #3 and #4, but I like some of the ideas which have been coming up such as the aayat - or tasmiya.
A nice 'aoodhubillahi minash shaytaanir rajeem, bismillahir rahmaanir raheem' would be so meaningful and correct.

I don't personally think that Arabic would alienate the non-muslim audience because it's such a short clip and also, nowadays people increasingly pride themselves on being culturally attuned and aware.

The other thing is i know some people posted their comments telling you not to get sucked into the fame.. i just want to say that i dont think anybody would waste so much time of their life just to make us laugh and be famous. Ali could become famous in a REALLY easier way! So i just want to congratulate you on an amazing series and inshallah this will be something that sets an amazing example for more and more people. option 4

At November 09, 2006 6:56 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Assalamu'alykum wa rahmatullah,
Option 1 may go best with the intro scene, the athan will have a greater impact on the audience. Starting with the praising and exaltation of Allah 'azza wa jal can only bring you success, inshaAllah. I prefer option 3, also a suggestion could be to find an ayah that fits your message and theme of "the reminder" that would be great. Ok Akhi keep up the good work, May Allah guide your affairs and grant you Jannah!

At November 09, 2006 8:35 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The adhan idea probably isnt creative to me and we need to appeal to the non muslims in giving dawah before us, i dont think its appropriate cuz adhan is for calling people to prayer not just that but also it sends an unusual pulse to non muslims so u can start with bismillahi ar rahman ar rahim afterwards and I dont know some people say its haram about music but cuz interpretations r not always being correctly studied, I believe in the music that corrupts the ears not the music that gives u a feel of the theme and relaxes ur soul. so option 1 is the best

At November 09, 2006 9:08 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

salams brother ali try yo use native deens ending tone from the music they used Ya Allah Im Prayin Istikhara To U. the last 10 seconds of it is perfect. it even has a goood fade in. azan won't be a good idea cause. at one point your listening to it and it just gets cut off

Option # 1, definitely!

At November 09, 2006 11:44 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

salamunalaikum :D, i think #3 is the best. the first Allahuakbar just makes me shiver. i really love it so much!

#1 is good, but after hearing the options with adhan, it seems somehow weak and silent.

At November 10, 2006 12:37 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I like option #1 the best. Some of the athans are cut off at the beginning, so that's why I chose option 1.

At November 10, 2006 2:26 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Assalamu 3alikum wah ra7mat Allaho wah Barakatoh.

Option 1 makes a lot more sense from a tonality point of view. YOu need to keep in mind that your episodes may serve as guidance to the right path to non-muslims of (Arabs and English speaking) insha Allah.

Keep your project as halaal as possible...music is haram and at best debatable, so try and avoid even the doubtful matters.
Option 3 is quite different and pleasant on the ear so go with that

Assalamu Alaikum

I will give you the best solution. Neither one of those options you presented are ideal. The first one uses a flute or something and will put some Muslims off. But i hear underlying it a drum beat. Drums are acceptable in Islam. It also had a nice beat that matched when the image would go in and out. So i think that is the best compromise - do some kind of drum beat and you can add some sounds made by voice like some nasheed artists do.

As for the other options - athan does not match at all with the graphic motion nor is ideal since we are not seeing a clip on prayer at a Mosque or some kind of mosque documentary.

I like option 3. Sounds like it "fits". Know what I mean?
Also, just a note: Didn't RasulAllah saws say, "If in doubt, dispell with the doubt"?
Kind of like "Better safe than sorry" on the BIG DAY.
May Allah guide us all, ameen.

At November 11, 2006 4:17 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Assalamu Alaikum Wa rahmat allahi wa barakatu;
I think you should start with either number three or khutbat alhajah, because that is what Rasulallah saws always started with.

At November 11, 2006 4:38 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'd go with number 2 or 4.

Two is my first choice.

The quality of 3 wasn't too great.

Number one sounded Arab and not Islamic. (jmho)

Assalamu'alaikum
I like option 2 or 4.
1. The athaan does go with the intro very well.
2. Not having music in the intro will keep happy the brothers/sisters who believe musical instruments to be haraam.
3. Some non-muslims know that musical instruments are haram as well. It looks wishy-washy if they see the video and they think "Wait, I thought musical instruments were forbidden in Islamic scripture?". It's bad da'wah.

Jazaak Allah Khayr

#4. Period.

Why not #1? Because even though we wish to bend the rules at times to attract those who are weak at heart or non-muslim, Allah is the one whom controls peoples hearts.

And the grace of Allah in the beginning is a much more clearer sign and differentiates from all the different videos of other religions that have music and what not ... but a simple call to prayer... praising Allah swt.

May Allah guide us all.

At November 11, 2006 10:14 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

aicha, if you combing all three adhans the number is greater than option 1, which means that adhan (non-music) is 80 over music which is 59.

As-salamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh, The Adhan is composed of specific words and phrases to be recited for the time schedule for the prayers. With this in mind I feel the adhan would not be approiate for the intro and I prefer option 1. Jazakallahu khairan. Your sister in Islam.

I like option 1.

When the other options played my little ones ran to get the prayer rugs out. Mind you my little ones are 2 and 3. So if the association with the call to prayer is already that ingrained in there minds, then please don't confuse the "REMINDER" with a prayer call.

About the music thing. I don't get what the hoopla is about instrumental stuff. #1 is great and I don't know a muslim who doesn't listen to music, almost every commercial in the US has a jingle.

Asalaamu alaikum...I liked number 3 annnnnd i know you said that you couldn't get any other background sound to it but i think you should try and get it edited and put nasheed or daf (the halal kind of drum) in the background because the adhaan is supposed to be a call to prayer, and im not sure if its appropriate to use it in the beginning of a show or blog. Allah (subhana wata 'ala) knows best. Ma asalaama

option 4 or option 3 (in that order). option 4 goes better with the movement, but option 3 is a sound-clip I've never heard before.

i dont think the ezan should be used in the intro.. the ezan was given to us for prayer and i think we should only use it for that reason not for other types of introductions. ppl even use it for ringtones!! that seems so out of place!

so i prefer the option of no ezan.

At November 13, 2006 6:41 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

prefered the 1st intro. I guess if a non muslim looks at it he may look upon it in a non biased manner if that makes sense.

At November 13, 2006 7:57 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Option 1 definitely.. it's more appealing to non-muslims and that's what da3wa is all about.. and there's nothing wrong with musical instruments as the daff (a muscial instrument) was used to welcome the prophet pbuh into medina after the hijrah.
salam.
