MySpace Networking

Bismillah ar-Rahmaan ar-Raheem,

I have received many requests to open a MySpace account so back in July, I opened one but never really used it. My only friend was Tom (stop laughing).

Honestly, I really didn't see the point of getting on MySpace since Ummah Films already had a blog and a website. Plus there was negative stigma associated with it. I figure it is no different than any other tool. People can use it for good or bad reason, just like chats/websites/blogs/youtube/etc...So far the main benefit, I see from it is the networking aspect. So last weekend, I decided to go on and make it active.

Ideally, the purpose of it is to expand the videos to the MySpace audience, which is apparently suppose to be huge. I have also been able to put up my calendar there as well. I'm still not sure how to use this tool. Please comment but you can't respond? I don't get it. So if someone asks a question, then how do you answer it on your account? Plus, you are really limited in designing your page. I'm trying to move the calendar to the top of the page and after two days, I can't figure it out. Joke!

I've had it for about a month and am still finding my way around it. If you look around there are various links to site sthat help you jazz up your page, one such is http://myspace.nuclearcentury.com/ that I used.

I haven't worked out the jazzier bits yet though

I write "The Reminder" videos based on what I see or experience. This whole world of myspace is brand new to me and yeah, actually almost wierd. It look a like world of alter egos.

I think a video about Muslim on the net would be interesting.

salaam

lol .. i was exactly the same when i started on myspace .. but my mate showed me around so now im passing on the advice. myspace is primarily for music but its also true that its just a tool .. theres loads of dud profiles on there .. like anti islam .. but we gotta show em whats its all abt

khair theres some really good sites out there that let you make ur own profile or premade layouts which u can also edit. Type "myspace layouts" in google/Yahoo! and pick a site. then paste the 'code' they give u into ur 'about me' section in edit account and away you go...

its hard work but once its done .. u can keep it looking good for a while .. inshaAllah that helps ..

tc, Allah hafiz - desi

Assalamu Alaikum
don't bother with the myspace. too many creeps there and lots of hassle. i assure you your videos have already circulated among those members and will continue to do so. Trust me, save yourself the headache.

I prefer you not to use the MySpace because of all the haram advertising they do on their web sites.

Genereal question, are we ok to link to your site from other websites?

I find myspace to be one of the most annoying websites/blogsites out there. I do have an account and have a few friends, but never use it as an actual blog. It is good to find and connect with people (since just about everyone has it), but going on there makes me feel like I'm at the mall or back in High school (ie surrounded by teenagers/teenage attitudes).

Anyway, alhamdulillah if it helps you reach out to people.

Assalamu Alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh

I would like to advise not only the brothers of Ummah Films, but also anyone else on myspace to get off it because there is no benefit there. Most people go there to talk about NOTHING! Even though shyatan make them think " Well were talking about Islam" yet its a sis chatting a bro or vis versa. All non sense as far as im concerned. We could truly use our time in better ways.

Keep in mind those 5 tings the Prophet (saw) told us to make use of before they were gone and two of those 5 things was our youth before we become old, and our time before we become too busy.

assalammu' alaikum,

jazakAllah khair for everyone's feedback and advise. I'm not on myspace to socialize but rather to market to the MySpace network.

I agree, myspace sucks big time. Its flooeded with junk advertisements. I perfer the Facebook network over Myspace. I setup my account there and am more active there. I find the website much easier to work with Alhamdulillah. There is also a Ummah Films fan group which was setup by a sister there. I just found about it this weekend when I was invited to join.
