Salam Baba Ali,
I am so glad you have finally done a video regarding this topic :) I am not a convert myself and yet I feel like this video of yours has touched me the most out of all your other ones. I myself grow extremely frustrated when Muslims themselves label things from their culture as being part of Islam itself or vice versa!

"We just want Islam. That's it. Nothing less, nothing more."

Kudos to that!! =D
Wa/salam!

Assalaamu alaikum Br. Ali,

Masha Allah, what a nice message, and a good reminder to people like me. It's hard to know how to strike a balance between giving converts their space and knowing when to reach out. We've all got such hectic lives of our own, you don't want to come across as a stalker.

On another note, I think you've got a great 'stage presence' in your videos. Very well done!

Keep at it!

How come you don't setup google ad-sense for youtube? I am sure there are many people out there willing to support your videos.

asSalamu 'alaykum,
A fan of Ummah Films. I think you're hilarious bro.

I wanted to mention that in case you wanted to get rid of the top NavBar on blogger here is how to do it:
http://blogger-templates.blogspot.com/2005/01/remove-navbar.html

This will make you're site look nicer without that top navbar. Just a thought.

JazakaAllahu khayr.

Assalamualaikum,

Jazak-Allah Khair for the resumption of the Reminder series.

As a piece of advice I would suggest not using the term, "extremist" or "modernist" as these terms were coined by the Western media as a means to pit Muslims against each other.

Rather I would suggest that we should restrict our comments to Halal and Haram.

Asslam alaykum Brother Ali

Jazaka Allah Khayr for your efforts brother, I have a comment regarding this video and some other previous videos, I think there is a lot of exaggeration of wrong acts from Muslims, this will really scare off non-Muslims watching and prevent them from seeking Islam. Please be careful about this. The fact is Muslims accept their new convert brothers and sisters and help and guide them in a very nice and kind way. Thanks.

I am born/raised in Muslim family however I consider myself as a revert, because I have not practiced Islam for 20-25 years until the last 10 years.Salam from Bosnian Brother in Islam...........to all Muslims

PREACH BROTHER. I was an evangelical christian before converting to islam. When somebody was baptized, they were bombarded with friends, information, bible studies, etc. As a muslim i havent been able to buy friends at the mosque! It took me months to find one activity i could join just to learn some koran. Islamic education needs to move beyond kids classes and university campusses.

Don't get me wrong though, i LOVES MY UMMAH!!!!

If someone is not going to convert to Islam based on the fact that some Muslims are less than perfect, they're not exactly the kind of people (read: morons) I want entering this faith.

" The fact is Muslims accept their new convert brothers and sisters and help and guide them in a very nice and kind way."

Is that really a fact?

Asalamu Alaikum brother Ali,
This is a great video! I really liked it. And I really like how you were talking about the sister backbiting the other one just because she wasn't wearing hijab when she had just converted. I really don't like it when some sisters think they are religious, when they backbite all the time. Even when they themeselves are doing wrong. Where I come from, many muslimahs think they are right all the time, and they try to be religious, but then they backbite you. As soon as you think you have found a good friend to trust, they go on backbiting you.

Sorry, I went a little off topic here. But anyways, your video was great. You are doing what I want to do in this world: try to improve the muslim ummah. I hope Allah makes it easy for you and I hope you accomplish your goals.

Thank you for your kind comments, I still think the way the video shows how Muslims deal with newly converts is way too exaggerated, it is showing Muslims as very tough and have some kind of extremism which is totally not true and is giving the wrong picture for non-Muslims. And yes many many many Muslims do welcome newly converts in a very nice way and help them out in understanding and practicing Islam; I don't know why you don't find this true?
please accept my best regards. Thanks.

As Salaamu alaykum,
I dunno your view on hijab, but this video "appeared" to make two points that were not based in Islam:
1) If a woman takes shahadah she is not obligated at that time to observe hijab.
a. Hijab is obligatory when shahadah is taken, not a gradual observance.
2) Hijab is cultural, not Islamic.
a. The obligation of hijab is Quran & Sunnah based, not a "cultural bid3ah"
If I am wrong may Allah forgive me. But it's what the people hear & not what we intend that matters.

Salaam brother, again you made me laugh and made me think. In my city a group of new Muslim sisters have formed an organization that collects new Muslim women together for learning and fun on a regular basis. I am so proud of them, and happy to support them, because as you said, the support is not there from those who have been born Muslim. I urge any converts reading this to organize themselves socially for learning and together time, for support. The group in my city is called alfitrah and it is awesome MashaAllah!

Another thing, all Muslims have to be careful of how they treat those who come to the mosque. I was insulted and yelled at for not wearing hijaab in two languages, and I had not become a Muslim. That rudeness kept me from becoming a Muslim till many months later.

OMG! Al hamdulla. I am soooooo glad that you talked about this topic inshaallah people will listen to you cuz i am always saying everything you just said and people don't listen to me. They tell me that the culture is the religion and vice versa. I try to explain to them that some of the things that they are teaching from the culture are not apart of the religion and infact are harram, but all they do is argue with me and swear that i'm wrong and that i need to stop talking that way before someone hears me. But i will never stop talking that way because it is the truth! So people need to stop being mad at me when i tell them what they are saying or doing is wrong and if they need to be mad at something be mad at the truth!

Once again: Thanx

THANK YOU for talking about this topic. I've actually heard a lot about this and it really bothers me. I've had so many arguments over this topic as well, and a lot of my friends think the same as me. This new generation of young Muslims DEFINTLY wants to change this. I know my father is currently helping out this new woman convert learn the basics of Islam, they have a session once every week. My mom goes with my dad too to help her out as well. And now her ex-husband is starting to come too just to learn about this religion because of his kids. We need to help new converts out because if they have no one to turn to, they will leave this beautiful religion. And my friend has seen this. She was talking to this girl who has become an ex-convert because of the lack of help and the way people judge her. We need to stop this mind-set, its only driving people away from this religion. Separate the culture from Islam; it's not doing us ANY good.

Assalamu Alaykum,

I too just wanted to say thank you for doing this video. It will be almost 2 years since i converted and i have yet to find even one muslim to be friends with. Now part of that may be due to geographic location however a large portion of that is simply due to the mixing of Islam and culture..a mixing that only serves to keep converts out. Someone asked in a previous post if you wernt being a little critical of how some muslim may act and i just wanted to say that i think you were 100% correct. I was actually sent home from a masjid when i wanted to convert and was told that white girls my age only convert to get married and i should leave and read about islam even though marriage wasnt even a thought to me. I converted on my own and finally gave up trying to go to the masjid after hearing more rude remarks from sisters.
InshAllah no one else will experience that and your videos will help all muslims to be mindful of their actions!

I can understand that it can be hard for converts after accepting islam and I can imagine your annoyance when we assume you know everything, but I am surprised to hear that muslims actually backbite about converts and shun then away.

To be honest, I haven't come across many converts and the only ones I know of are the famous ones like Baba Ali, Yusuf Islam, Chambers, Estes and so on. I assumed that converts would be given extra support rather than being shunned off by muslims due to the culture barrier. However, I can also imagine how hard it must be for converts who feel that they have to fit into our culture just to be muslims.

I would also like to say nice video Baba Ali, once again.

Asslam O Alicom,
Thanks for sharing the video. May Allah in His mercy allow you to keep going.

I couldn’t agree more with the point you made regarding people mixing things from their culture in to Islam. The one down side to this action is that some of the stupid cultures allow Islam bashers get a stick to beat Muslims with. Its fault of the culture but Islam pays the price for it.
Jaza ka Allah khareen.

Assalaamu Alaikum,
Thank you for your videos - MarshaAllah - they are so entertaining and definitely say what we're all thinking!!! I'm a revert from the UK and I think you portrayed it so well but it must be difficult for other people to know if they're patronising us or expecting too much - after over a year of being Muslim I find it weird that sometimes people think they need to teach me to do wudu! There is a happy medium surely!!! lol. I think its also important to remember days like Eid can be hard / lonely for reverts so hopefully this will 'remind' everyone to keep an eye out for brothers and sisters in this position this week - inshaAllah.

Keep up the good work!!!
Wasalaam, Ayesha

As-salam-o-alakum Baba Ali. I love all your videos and have watched each one more than 4 times!!! You have changed my perception and how I lead my life. However, the part where you mention "convert"; I am not sure if this is the right word. Every human is born a "Muslim". Later on in life the human adopts the religion of his or her family. If Allah guides the person and lead them towards Islam, then it is called "Reverting". Because the person was born a Muslim, and accepts Islam later on in life by the will of Allah, then the right word used is "Revert". I hope you read this comment!!! I wish you all the best and may Allah reward you! Jazak Allah!

assalam alaikom ,
well i think that most people who convert to another religion did their '' home work '' and did enough research to know the basics like for example : have an idea on how to pray !! or know from general knowledge that a curtain thing is halal or haram another example : most people know that muslims cant eat pork / ham, however they have no in depth knowledge because most muslim societies dont make enough effort to teach them and even if they do they'll teach them the basics then they are on their own ( im saudi and things are done like this in my country for newly converted muslims :) )

Hello i'm a practicing muslim, and im really about to leave this religion.I have some questions that I want answered, here are some of the questions,1.If Islam is so peaceful, why in the middle east there are imam's or scholars who are in mosques teach about violence, and killing? Why are there so many people who are leaving Islam in the middle east, and if they do convert, why do they get slaughtered? There is a verse in the Quran that tells me not to take the jews and Christians as your friends why? Please provide evidence with your response and not just opinions thank you.
